CCEE1922 Barbecue Month/Hamburger Day

Frances wound up her month as hostess for the CCEE Stampers challenge with a yummy challenge.  She told us that May is apparently Barbecue Month and May 28th was Hamburger Day.  So she asked us to think BBQ and/or Hamburgers when creating our cards.  I pulled out an old stamp set from Gina K (King of the Grill) and a new die set from Karen Burniston (the Rockin' Rectangle) to create my card.  I used Karen's tutorial for making an acetate-front card with this die set.  I didn't have a big hamburger stamp, so the hamburgers stacked down the front were some free clip art.

Sesame Street and Karen Burniston

My daughter recently asked me to make a couple of birthday cards for her friend, who is celebrating his 50th birthday.  He recently became a big fan of Sesame Place at Sea World, Orlando.  I used two different Karen Burniston pop-up dies to create these fun cards.

The first one (Cookie Monster) is made with the Cake Pop-Up die, but using only the bottom layer.  Karen Burniston has a video showing how to make one of these.  I googled "Cookie Monster Free Clip Art" and found several images.  I used his face on the front, adding some googlie eyes for some whimsey.  The sentiment was made with Word Set 2 - Birthday.

Following Karen's directions for the one-layer stage, I made the inside -- scattering some cookies around.  I also used the Border Blends - Party, Numbers, and Word Set 8 - Congrats sets.

The second card featured Oscar the Grouch.

Again, I googled some free clip art for Oscar's image, and added the "50" to the front.

For the inside I used the Coffee Cup Pop-Up, cutting off the lid to make the garbage can.

Another piece of free clip art gave me this image of Oscar along with the garbage scattered on the ground.  I added another border, using Border Blends - Argyle, at the top, and just the word Celebrate.

Here's a close-up of Oscar in his garbage can.  The corrugated piece emulates the look of a real garbage can, don't you think?

The birthday party was this past weekend.  I hope the "birthday boy" enjoyed these cards!

Scor-Pal Pinspired Calendar

Each month one of the members of the Scor-Pal design team looks back at Scor-Pal's Pinterest page and recreates a project, using their own design.  This month is my turn.  As I looked through the Pinterest page, I came across this fun project -- an Easel Calendar card, made by Virginia Nebel.

Many of my friends are avid Harry Potter fans (as am I), and I thought it might be fun to recreate Virginia's project with a Harry Potter-inspired one.

To start my card I scored an 11" x 8 1/2"  piece of red 110-pound cardstock at 5 1/2" and 8 1/4".

I then Z-folded at the score lines.

After adding strips of Scor-Tape to the last panel . . .

. . . I adhered a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" panel to the front.

I cut a yellow mat panel 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" and some Harry Potter-themed pattern paper slightly smaller . . .

. . . and adhered them to the card base.

Using images from Kindred Stamps' Students of Magic stamp set and patterned paper, I created a little scene -- adding a small calendar to a black banner.  The "Platform 9 3/4" was stamped with some Just Rite letters and numbers, and the sentiment was computer-generated.

I then adhered this completed scene to the easel front and added the owl "bumper," which holds the easel open.  I used large foam pop-dots to adhere the "bumper."

It's always fun to find a project you like and make it your own by changing the theme or the colors or the images.

CCEE1921 Dies, Dies, Dies

Frances continues as hostess for the CCEE Stampers again this week.  She tells us that she seldom creates a card these days that doesn't include at least one die in its creation.  She challenged us this week to make a card using at least one die.  

I, too, make many of my cards using dies; so this was not a challenge for me at all.  Mine today uses the Lawn Fawn Magic Picture Changer die and a fun stamp set from Kindred Stamps called Arabian Nights.

When you pull the tab, the magic happens.

I even made a video to show how the mechanism works.

CCEE1920 Pizza Party Day

Frances continues this week as hostess for the CCEE Stampers.  She tells us that tomorrow (May 17th) is Pizza Party Day, so for our challenge this week she asks us to create a card that features pizza or some other food item on it.

Unfortunately, I have not one pizza stamp in my craft room.  So I pulled out some CottageCutz breakfast dies to make a fun waterfall card, using the Karen Burniston Frame Pull Pop-Up die.

And on the back is the sentiment.

CCEE1919 Mother's Day or Not

Frances continues this week with another challenge for the CCEE Stampers.  She reminds us that Mother's Day is this coming Sunday in many parts of the world, including the USA, Canada, and Australia.  She asks us to create a card suitable for a mother -- it doesn't, however, have to be a Mother's Day card.

While my card would be suitable for a mother, it is a birthday card rather than a Mother's Day card.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge -- Congrats

The Karen Burniston Designer Challenge for May is CONGRATS!   It could be graduation or any other congratulations card.  I must admit that I'm rather fond of the Woven Basket Pop-Up die from the latest KB release.  I think it's my favorite; and when Karen did the video on how to make it a double-wide basket, I was hopelessly addicted.  My congrats card would be for a new baby girl, not that I know of anyone having a baby -- girl or otherwise.

I had so much fun making this card.  In addition to the Woven Basket Pop-Up, I also used dies from the Baby Charms, Spring Animals, Explosion Pop-Up, Word Set 8 - Congrats, and Ovals - Crosshatch.

Many of the charm dies were attached with strips of clear acetate.  That helped give some height to the card.

As you can see, I decided I didn't want a monochromatic look to my basket card, so I added a bit of yellow in the form of the balloons, some of the flowers and the little rubber ducky.

And I just had to tuck that cute bunny from the Spring Animals in there among the flowers.

Now I'll just have to wait until someone I know has a baby girl!
