Happy Star Wars Day

I hadn't played with Karen Burniston's Photo Collage Pop-up in a while, and I thought it would be perfect for a Star Wars Day card.  It's for my son, who is a Star Wars fan, as am I.

The stamps are from a couple of Kindred Stamps sets, Galactic Adventures and Galactic Travel.

I had to do a bit of word-surgery to create the sentiment for this card.  Obviously, we don't have a "Happy Star Wars Day" die, but we do have a "Happy Father's Day" die, which is what I used.  After cutting the sentiment and the shadow, I cut the words apart -- discarding "Father's" and gluing the words to the shadow.  I then carefully cut around "Happy" and "Day."  The other letters are from Karen's Mini Alphabet and Numbers set.

I decided that I would use the same color cardstock for each of the photos rather than make them multi-colored.  The blue is just slightly lighter than the cardstock I used for the base of the card (and the background for the characters).  I had to place the Millenium Falcon and the X-wing fighter strategically so that they would not create catch points when the card is opened.   That is the same reason the oval for my signature is oriented vertically rather than horizontally.

Star Wars Day Slimline Waterfall Card

May the 4th be with you!!!  Today is Star Wars Day, and I had to make a card to celebrate.  I used some Kindred stamps and the new Karen Burniston Waterfall Card die.  As the Star Wars logo is yellow and black, I used those colors for my waterfall.  I did have to fudge the construction a little bit.  My images are just a little too large for the smallest of the waterfall panels, so I put them on the middle panel and cut a black mat piece just a little larger -- just enough to set off the photo.

And, when you turn it over to the back, there's R2D2!

Star Wars Accordion Card

Star Wars is one of my favorite movie franchises -- even the ones with Jar Jar Binks!  I was really excited when the new trilogy began -- with some old favorite characters as well as a number of new ones.  I've made an accordion card using the Karen Burniston Fancy Label Accordion die, some Galactic Adventures stamps from Kindred Stamps and a favorite background technique -- the Galaxy Background.  In case you've never done this particular technique, I have described the technique on this post from 2017.  It's not really difficult, just messy.

For this particular card I created the background prior to gluing the three panels together.  For the ground I cut three more panels from tan cardstock, trimmed them down, and sponged along the top with some Vintage Photo distress ink.

When closed, this is the front -- created by cutting an additional white panel with the die and just cutting out the inside panel and adhering it over the first panel on the card, covering up the tabs that connect to the second panel.  Then I made an additional galaxy background panel and cut it out with the smaller die and stamped on the sentiment with Versamark, embossed with detail white embossing powder.

The frames on this card were cut using the Karen Burniston Fancy Flourish Frames, which coordinate with the accordion die.  And I hope you'll give that galaxy background a try.  It's really fun!

CCEE1804 Favorite Techniques

As Liz's final CCEE Stampers challenge this month, she gave us an easy one -- "show us your favorite technique in cardmaking."   Actually, my card has two techniques that I really love:  the Galaxy background technique and a fun fold, a divider screen card.  In addition, I also like to fussy cut; it's very relaxing.    To be absolutely honest, I used elements of one of my favorite movie franchises on this card.  I'm sure you can tell what that is!

Scor-Pal "More Than One Score" - Happy Birthday, Space Dude

This month's "More Than One Score" challenge on the Scor-Pal blog was 3-D cards, something that I love to make.  For my card, I made a Z Box Pop-Up Card, which was lots of fun to make.  I used some new stamps from Kindred Stamps called Galactic Adventure and combined them with some stamps from an old set from MFP Stamp Shop, which unfortunately is no longer in business.  Star Wars nerd that I am, I had lots of fun making this card.

To make a Z Box Pop-Up Card, cut 2 pieces of blue cardstock, one 4 1/4" x 11" and the other 2 1/8" x 11", scoring them both at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2", as shown.

Fold on score lines in opposite Z-folds, as shown . . .

. . . and glue the narrow one to the front of the card base, as shown.

Using the remaining 2 1/8" x 11" strip, score at 7/8", 3 5/8", 4 1/8", 6 7/8", 7 3/8", and 10 1/8".  Fold as shown.

Apply double-sided adhesive tape to the folds, as shown . . .

. . . and repeat on the other sections on the opposite side.

Remove paper backing from the double-sided adhesive tape and carefully fit the folded strip into the box in the card base.

You can then decorate your card.  Add the patterned paper to the back and front panels.  Cut the sky paper to 4" x 5 1/4" and cut in half (5 1/4" x 2").  Adhere one half to the top of the back panel.  Cut the remaining piece in half (2 5/8" x 2") and add to the right side of the back panel and the top of the front panel.  Cut the other patterned paper to 5 1/4" x 2" and adhere to the bottom of the front panel.

Stamp the images of Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, the rocket, and the planet -- and color with markers.  Carefully fussy-cut the images and attach to the card.  Stamp the sentiments and cut out with a punch -- and adhere as shown.

CCEE1729 Moon and Space Exploration Day

Maryann continues as our hostess of the CCEE Stampers for the month of July.  She mentioned a good celebration for today, July 20.  It's Moon Day and Space Exploration Day, so she asked us to use this theme to inspire our cards this week.  I confess:  I'm a Star Wars junkie!  (I saw Episode VII five times in the theater and bought the DVD to add to the rest of them in my collection!)   So I jumped into this challenge feet first.  I saw a really cool technique for the galaxy background on You-Tube several weeks ago, and I've already made three cards using it.  I used it again today with a cute set of stamps from a new-to-me company, Kindred Stamps.  The set is called Galactic Adventure -- very appropriate for today's celebrations.  Here's my card:
