Karen Burniston New Release Sneak Peek - Day 3

I've got an accordion card for you today using a previously released set (the Landscape Rectangle Accordion) and one of the new sets (Sewing Charms).  As a person who has sewn since I was a young kid -- many years ago -- I really love this new set.  I added a few sentiments from an old stamp set I've had in my stash for many years.

I originally added twine to the spool, but I decided that was too bulky.  So instead, I cut the spool of thread twice -- once in brown and once in blue.  I cut off the top and bottom of the blue piece and just glued it to the brown one.  That worked much better.

As a matter of fact, I made another card using these Sewing Charms along with the new Label Charm Pop-Up set.

The spool of thread on the center panel was actually used as a charm on this card.

I'm really having a grand time using all the new dies in this release.

Karen Burniston New Release Sneak Peek - Day 2

I've got another sneak peek of new release dies from Karen Burniston.  Today's sets are the Fireplace Pop-Up and Fireplace Extras 1 and 2.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and that's what this card is all about.  The front is a rather simple lead-in.

But the inside is where all the action is!

I love this fireplace with all its little details.  The fireplace, fire, and log are from the main Fireplace Pop-Up set.  The tools and candles are from the Fireplace Extras 1 set; and the grate, clock and picture frames are from the Fireplace Extras 2 set.  I added a few stamped images inside the picture frames as well as the cute little vampire.  The ghost, BOO! and the jack-o-lantern are from Karen's Halloween Elements set.  Finally, the rug was made with the Ovals-Crosshatch set.

I tried a product I've never used before -- glow-in-the-dark embossing powder.  I'm happy to report that it does work, but photographing it is not easy.  Here's the best I could do.

I've got a couple more Halloween cards I'll be sharing with you later in the week.  I hope you'll come back to see them.

Karen Burniston New Release - Day 1

Hooray!  It's time for the new release from Karen Burniston!  Actually, you won't be able to purchase them until next week; but we've got some sneak peeks for you this week.

Here's a peek at all the new dies in this release.

My first card for the week uses a several of them (one is brand-new and three that contain dies that are not brand-new).  The front of the card is pretty simple -- and uses snowflakes from Long Nature's Edges 2 and words from Word Set 13 - Snow.  I tried the closure that Karen showed us a couple of weeks ago.

On the inside I constructed a 3-ball snowman, using one of the new sets -- Snow Man Add-ons.  It contains parts to make a cute snowman.  That's the brand-new set.  The new/not so new sets are called Double-Ups.  They contain duplicate decorator pieces for each of the ball pop-ups (Surprise, Bitty, and Mini).   This will make cutting the decorator pieces go much faster.

When I put this card together, I wanted the snowman to be a free-standing element; so I "borrowed" another of Karen's ideas and attached him to a base which can be removed from the card.

The rest of the team also has some sneak peeks today, so be sure to check them out as well.

Stranger Things Slimline Waterfall Card

My family members (including me) are obsessed with Stranger Things.  Now that Season 4 has been released, we have to wait another year or so before the 5th and final season airs.  So to give everyone a bit of ST love in the meantime, I created this slimline card using the Karen Burniston Waterfall Card die.  The die is engineered so that four panels form the "waterfall."   Unfortunately, my Kindred Stamps set has much more than four characters.  So I elongated my waterfall so that I could have seven panels.  I'm highlighting three of the panels here.

But, if you watch this short video, you'll see the rest of them.

With all of that going on on the outside, I made the inside of the card rather simple.

I hope my family members enjoy this card.  And be sure to visit my blog next week.  I'll have some sneak peeks at the new Karen Burniston release!

CCEE2232 - Pluto Demoted Day

Frances told the CCEE Stampers that, according to the Days of the Year web site, yesterday (August 24th) was Pluto Demoted Day.  This day marks the occasion in 2006 when Pluto was demoted from being a planet to a dwarf planet.  For our challenge today, we were to create a card that has a space theme.

I pulled out some dies from Karen Burniston to make my pop-up card.  On the front are several dies from the Space Charms set, and the friendly alien on the inside was made with her Mini Ball Pop-Up die.  The sentiment is from Honey Bee Stamps.

Check out the CCEE Stampers blog for more alien fun.

CCEE2232 - Peach Month

Frances continues her month as CCEE Stampers hostess by telling us that, apparently, August is Peach month and Monday (August 22) is National Peach Day.  So our challenge this week is to create a card that features one or more things that begin with the letter "P" -- a punched image, patterned paper, pansy, paint, person, or a product that is from a company whose name starts with "P."

I've got several things I can check off that list:  patterned paper, plaid, peach image, stamp from Paper Nest Dolls.

See how many "P" items the rest of the team found.  Their cards are on the CCEE Stampers blog.

CCEE2231 - Embossing Folder Technique

Frances showed the CCEE Stampers a new technique using embossing folders.  She said Jennifer McGuire had shared this technique several months ago.  You'll find the full instructions HERE.   I used a Tim Holtz 3-D embossing folder for my card.

Be sure to check out the CCEE Stampers blog.  I'm really curious as to how the other members of the team handled this one.  I did not care for my first attempt, in which I used a regular embossing folder.  The 3-D one gave much better results.

CCEE2230 - Butterflies

Frances starts her month as hostess for the CCEE Stampers by saying that butterflies seem to be very popular right now.  Many companies have released products featuring them this year.  She asked us to create a card that features one or more butterflies.

A few years ago, Stampin' Up released a huge butterfly stamp which I really like.  I have used it many times.  A favorite way to use it is to stamp it in white, emboss it, and then sponge a color on top -- wiping away the color from the white embossing.  It looks quite striking, wouldn't you agree?  The sentiment is a Simple Strips saying from Taylored Expressions.

On the inside of my card are some more butterflies on the relatively new smaller collage die from Karen Burniston.

Be sure to check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more butterflies.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Labels

The theme for this month's Karen Burniston Designer Challenge is "LABELS."  We were to create a card that incorporates a pop-up label.  A relatively new die in Karen's arsenal is the Little Labels Pop-Up, which is a generic die that can be used in both a regular-type card or a slimline card, even a mini slimline.  My choice for this month's challenge was a slimline card.

What I like about this particular die set, is that you have so many options.  There are six different-sized label dies in the set, BUT the Paper Frames Pop-Up has six different dies that are the same shape but different sizes.  Plus the Labels Crosshatch set has several more.  So you have a wide variety of sizes from which to mix and match.

Be sure to check out the cards made by the rest of the DT.

Scor-Pal "More Than One Score"

I was recently asked to make a teacher appreciation card, so I combined it with this month's Scor-Pal "More Than One Score" -- just in time for school to start.  It qualifies for the "Anything Goes" category.

There are several different versions of Z-fold cards; this one is called a Z box fold.  In some versions of this card, the front horizonal strip goes all the way to the edge of the card.  I needed a little more room on that front panel, so I cut it short.

The image is a digital one from Paper Nest Dolls -- Teacher Emma, and the sentiment on the blackboard is from Kindred Stamps' Masters of Magic stamp set.
