Karen Burniston New Release Blog Hop

 Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our Karen Burniston Products - KB Riley LLC February Release Blog Hop. The Design Team have come together with Karen today for a fun blog hop to celebrate the release of 6 new dies. Sneak peeks of the new release started last week, and the dies are available to order NOW!

This release includes:
  • 1 new Charm die set
  • 1 new Word set
  • 1 new Tiny House Add-Ons set
  • 1 new Pop-up die set
  • 1 new Crosshatch die set
  • 1 new Border die set
Dies are available to order now on the website.

For my card today, I chose the new Little Twist Panel Pop-Up set and created a full-size slimline card with two sets of panels.  The front of the card features a stamped image and sentiment and some scattered sea creatures.  The shells are from a previously released set, Tropical Scene.  There are some new items on the front as well -- the fish and crabs.  They are part of Beach Borders.  Actually, Beach Borders (as the name suggests) are border dies.  I cut a couple of the images apart and used them.

Inside the card, you'll see the how two Little Twist Panels are used side-by-side.  And you can see what the Beach Borders look like intact.  I did not use the little banners for this particular card, opting just to cut some sand patterned paper, covering the holes in those center panels. By the way, the patterned paper used for the background for the front and bottom panel inside are from a slimline pack from Whimsy Stamps.  The top inside panel was ink blended.  I added a couple of the Octagon shapes from the Bam Box Pop-Up for my sentiment inside.  Also in the new release is another charm set -- Sea Charms.  I used four of the charms inside the frames.

To celebrate the release Karen Burniston and each of the Karen Burniston - KB Riley LLC Design Team members will be giving away a $25 Gift Certificate to some lucky person who comments on our blog posts, so make sure you join the hop and comment on everyone's blog post. Winners will be randomly chosen from ALL of the blog hop comments received on our blog posts by Monday, 27th February 2023. Lots of chances to win some goodies, so just leave a comment on this post or any other blog hop posts to enter! Don't forget to leave some way for us to contact you, in case you are a lucky winner!

Designer Challenge for May -- TREASURE

It's time again for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge -- and this month the design team was able to play with some new dies.  The theme of this month's challenge is TREASURE, and there are two sets which are perfect for this theme -- Treasure Chest and Treasure Charms.  I used both of these sets for my card, along with the Circle Tag Book Pop-Up.  As you can see, the Treasure Chest set includes a lock to ensure that your treasure will be safe.  I cut the lock from both silver paper and stiff acetate.  The acetate was to keep the piece from tearing when locking and unlocking the treasure chest.

When you open the chest, you can see all the treasure inside -- gold coins, gemstones, a string of pearls, and even a ruby-encrusted gold crown.

On the inside of the card are many of the treasure charms included in that set -- a tiara, a trophy, an emerald ring, and a ruby pendant.

I couldn't have a treasure chest without a pirate, now could I?   If you look closely at both sides, you might be able to see Changito the Pirate wielding his sword and holding his parrot.  I haven't used those Stampendous images in a long time, and it was time to bring them out again.

This was such a fun project for the challenge.  Thanks for stopping by to look.

CCEE2018 - World Penguin Day

Frances ends her month as hostess for the CCEE Stampers by telling us that April 25 was World Penguin Day, and asking us to feature penguins on our cards.  If we didn't have any penguins, we could just create a black and white card.

I have a couple of penguin stamp sets and pulled out the largest penguin image for my card.  I decided that I wanted a pop-out card, so I used the Karen Burniston Rockin' Rectangle for my card base.

The Stampendous penguin that I used has a matching die, so I cut out the front of my card and lined it with an acetate sheet.  The pop-out penguin can be seen through the acetate and says "hi" when you open the card.

For some more penguin fun, check out the CCEE Stampers blog.

Another Karen Burniston Sneak Peek - Triple Flip

Today's sneak peek at one of the new Karen Burniston dies is another card made with the Triple Flip die.  How fun is this one!!!   My daughter loves anything nautical, so chances are she will wind up with this card.   The images are from a couple of Stampendous and Rubbernecker stamp sets.

Aptly named the Triple Flip because there are three panels on the front of the card . . .

. . . which, when you pull that little arrow/tab, flip over to reveal three more images.

I don't always finish the inside of a card when I initially make it, but this time I did -- carrying the nautical theme in there also.

I must warn you:  this die is very addicting.  I have made a bunch of cards using it.  I'm sure you'll be seeing more of them in the very near future.  These dies will be shipping in mid-July, so you've got some time to think of how you'd like to use them.

Scor-Pal "Anything Goes" Challenge

The theme of February's Scor-Pal "More Than One Score" challenge is Anything Goes.  I usually do fun fold cards for the Scor-Pal challenges, but I decided to do something a little different to start off this year of challenges.  I just scored the background of my birthday card with double scorelines to make a diamond-shaped backdrop for this cute mermaid.  My daughter loves anything beach- or nautical-related.  I'm sure she'll grab this card quickly.  BTW, the original sentiment was "Mermaid Kisses and Starfish Wishes."  I masked off the end of that sentiment and added "Birthday Wishes" with another stamp.

Be sure to check out the Scor-Pal blog to see what the rest of the team did for this challenge.  Plus you can join in the fun and maybe win a prize!

CCEE1738 Pirates

Tuesday was "Talk like a Pirate Day," and Kelly asked the CCEE Stampers to create a card using anything pirate related.  We could earn some extra treasure/booty if we included a map on our card.   I pulled out an old set that I always thought was cute -- Changito the Pirate.  And I even found some map paper!

Check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more pirate fun!

Timeless Tuesday and a New Technique

I saw this really cool technique called Painting with Powder at a LSS in Mount Dora, Florida. Stampendous has a YouTube video on their website – you should check it out. I combined this technique with today’s Timeless Tuesday challenge on the Flourishes Newsletter – no coloring of images.

Following the directions on the Stampendous video, I created the background using embossing powder in blue; white; silver; and a mixed color called Winter Wonderland, which is silver and white combined. Then I stamped the sleigh and snowman/tree in Versafine Black Onyx ink and embossed in clear. The sentiment was stamped with Versamark and embossed in red. The body of the sleigh was stamped onto some glitter paper I bought last year from Flourishes, cut out and paper-pieced onto the image on the card.

With all the sparkle from the embossing and DP, I didn’t think it needed any embellishments, so I just matted the picture in silver and more of the red glitter paper, and glued it down to the white base.

Inspiration Challenge

Today's SCS Inspiration Challenge was to create a card inspired by a poster from this site http://www.posters.com/

After looking through many of the categories, I settled on a Monet painting of waterlilies -- http://www.posters.com/pv-424702_Water-Lilies.html -- so that I could used my as-yet-uninked Waterlily set from Flourishes. After much masking and stamping, I colored the waterlilies and lily pads with Copic and Prismacolor markers. To give the water a lighter feel, I used some Pebbles Pearlescent chalks in two shades of turquoise. I thought the EK Success border punch gave the feel of water.

* Stamps - Waterlily by Flourishes
* Paper - Pre-made white cardbase, Basic Black, Gina K Designs Luxury White, Tempting * Turquoise DSP
* Ink - Palette Noir Black, ColorBox Dragonfly Black pigment
Accessories - Prismacolor and Copic markers, Pebbles Pearlescent chalks, Clear embossing powder, EK Success border punch

There was so much to look at on the website of today's Inspiration Challenge that I had to make a second card.

Big Johnny Depp fan that I am, I chose this poster -- http://www.posters.com/pv-552761_Pir...n--Johnny.html I had bought this Rubber Stamp Avenue pirate stamp (which is NOT supposed to be Capt. Jack Sparrow, but you'll never convince me of it) at a stamp show last year and have had a lot of fun with it. I colored it with Prismacolor and Copic markers and mounted it on several mats. The other two stamps are from a Changito Pirate set. Because Capt. Jack's ship is the Black Pearl, I colored the three MS pearls with Black Prismacolor marker.

* Stamps - Pirate by Rubber Stamp Avenue, Changito Pirates by Stampendous
* Paper - Purely Pomegranate, Basic Gray, Going Gray, GP White
* Ink - Palette Noir Black, Versamark
* Accessories - Prismacolor and Copic markers, Nestabilities, Martha Stewart pearls
