Karen Burniston New Release - Day 1 Sneak Peek

It's finally time for the sneak peeks to begin, and Karen Burniston outdid herself this time.  15 new dies and 5 new stamp sets!  There are three Add-ons for the pop-up balls.  They can all be pre-ordered on the 24th.

One of the new dies makes three cute bugs -- a ladybug, a bee, and a grasshopper.  There is also a border set that coordinates with it.

My card today features the ladybug along with the Bitty Ball.  The front of the card has the border along with a sentiment from one of the new stamp sets.

When you open the card, up pops the cute ladybug.  I held the card closed using the Flap and Closure set with a small magnet on the back.

As shown in this photo, I had mounted the ladybug on a circle so that it can be removed from the card.

One nice thing about this Add-on set is that everything you need (except the ball) is included  -- things like the eyes and the mouth.

Included in this release are three utilitarian die sets which allow you to open the pop-up balls (one set for each ball size) to get to the rubber bands.  I, of course, used the one for the Bitty Ball.  It cuts out two sets of access tabs that you would use to replace the smaller tabs on the ball die cuts.

Karen Burniston New Release Sneak Peek - Day 7

My last sneak peek for this new release is a small 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 St. Patrick's Day card that I made for my cat-loving friend.  (She doesn't do Facebook or look at my blog, so I'm safe!)  Again, I used that fun updated Lorna Label Pop-Up as well as the new Good Luck and Word Set 18 - Connectors dies.

The little shamrocks on the front are part of the Good Luck Charms, as is the hat on the cat (which is part of the Cat & Dog set) and Squares - Crosshatch.  This proves Karen's motto that her dies are all "backward compatible."

Karen Burniston New Release Day 1 - House of Cards

I am so excited about this new release from Karen Burniston.  There are 9 new dies in this release, and they are all spectacular.  

It was a little hard to pick which new die to show you first, so I decided to start with my favorite -- the House of Cards -- and a card I made for my grandson Robby's birthday.

The card game our family plays 90% of the time is a fun, sort-of progressive rummy game called Garbage. When I first envisioned this card, I had planned to use cards from the new Game Charms (which I'll show on another card) on the front. However, as I thought it through and decided to personalize it a bit for my grandson by including a score sheet with his name on it, I decided to use a set of cards I purchased from Amazon, which are actual cards -- but much smaller. The score sheet is inside in the upper left-hand corner, with Robby's name on it and the first hand (two sets of three) checked off. Also on the inside is a sentiment created from the new Word Set 17 - Congratulations.

I just love this set and have already made four cards with it. I'll have another one later this week to show you.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek - Day 2

I'm using another one of Karen Burniston's new dies today -- actually I'm showing you two of them.  One is an "add-on" set.  The primary set is the Tiny House Pop-Up.  I realize Christmas has long-since passed, but I wanted to make a gingerbread house.

A fun element to this set is the roof die.  It is treated so that you can ink it up prior to cutting the roof piece.  This will show the shingles in more detail.  I used Versamark and white embossing powder so that it looks like icing.  The "gumdrops" along the edge of the roof line were made with a die of 4 small hearts, which is part of the set.

The "add-on" set contains elements to make a Mushroom House.  You get a different roof, door, and windows.  The front of the card is a Riley & Co. Mushroom Lane image, as are the little gnomes on the inside.

You can see that the door is rounded at the top and the windows are round.  And, oh, by the way, that tree is also new.  It's from a set called Tiny Trees Pop-Up.  I'll have another card using that die later this week, showing it in more detail.  I hope you'll check back.

Gnomes and Paper Tole

I just received my first Riley & Company Mushroom Lane stamp and its accompanying die set.  I bought this so I could do some paper tole, which is always a lot of fun.  I decided that the front of the card shouldn't be too "busy," or it would take away from the inside.  So on the front I used the new Karen Burniston Tile Pattern Plate and a small little scene with a couple of the Mini Gnomes, also from Riley & Company.

I wanted the mushroom cottage to pop up, so I cut the pop-up mechanism from the Karen Burniston Tree Pop-Up twice in the grass section of the inside.  The navy blue and patterned papers on the inside are very light-weight because I didn't want much bulk.  After cutting the clouds across the top, I sponged on some white pigment ink and sprinkled detail white embossing powder over the ink.   I brushed some of the powder off to give it a lighter, sparing look.  Then I heat embossed it.

The die set has four different dies, allowing you to make several layers in your paper tole project.  As I didn't want the inside of my card to be too bulky, I have only two layers on the house.  I stamped the image twice, fussy cutting the entire image and then die-cutting the top mushroom.  I used small foam dots to attach the smaller piece to the larger mushroom.

I did add two foam dots to the gnome so that he would stand out from the mushroom.  You can see that the door and windows also are layered.

I didn't have any sentiments that would work for the inside of my card, so I created one on my computer.  I love dafont.com for unusual fonts.  I downloaded one called Alien Mushroom, which I thought would work well for the sentiment.  I printed it on white paper and mounted it in a similar manner as the little scene on the front -- with the Karen Burniston Crosshatch dies, matted in navy.

I hope to do a full-blown paper tole card with this cute Mushroom Lane house sometime in the future; but in the meantime, I got my fix on this cute little card.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge -- Picture This

The Karen Burniston Designer Challenge this month is "Picture This," the perfect choice for one of the brand-new dies being released this month -- the Photo Collage.

My daughter and several of her friends have annual passes to some of the local theme parks, one of which is Sea World.  They recently were at the opening of the Sesame Street-land section and posted many photos on Facebook.  I took the opportunity to grab some of her photos and put together my card, which I gave to her the other day.  (I may have created a monster because she said her friends my very well want one of them, too!)  The front of the card gives a little hint as to what is inside.  I used a couple of the dies from Word Set 6 - Summer, as well as one of the Crosshatch Squares.

It just amazes me how the mechanism works and displays all those photos without binding up.  I made a quick video to show how this works.

These dies will be shipping mid-July, so get ready to have some fun!!!
