Featured Stamper and More Copic Coloring

Today's Featured Stamper on Splitcoaststampers is Jacquie J, who has a wonderful gallery.  A technique she used on several of your cards was inlaid die cuts, and I chose one of them to CASE for my card.  Here is a link to her card, and her is my version.

I stenciled the burlap for my background with Ranger Tea Dye.  I cut the "happy birthday" words from the contrasting colors and laid them aside.  After I placed the dies on my stenciled piece and cut them out, I pulled the words from the dies but left the little spaces (in the a's, p's, d's, y's and the b) remain in the dies.  I taped across the openings in the panel with Scotch tape and laid the words into the open spaces.  Then I laid the dies (with the little spaces still in them) on top of the words and pushed them out with a paper piercer.  They were exactly over the empty spaced and filled them up quite easily.    To make sure my brads would match the colors, I just punched out six circles with a hand-held punch, adhered the circles to the card, and put a little Glossy Accents over top.

I also have another Copic-colored ballerina from Friday's Copic coloring class.  I wanted to try to do a darker skin tone on this one.

I found a color combination for black hair, which I really liked -- B41, C5, C7, and 100.  I'm going to have to remember that one!

Featured Stamper and a Sneak Peek

Today's Featured Stamper over on Splitcoaststampers is Julie Elak (a/k/a Humma), and her gallery is full of lots of whiimsical critters.  I chose this card to CASE, changing it from a Christmas card to a Halloween card by using a brand-new set from Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Company, What a Scream, which will be available for purchase on Tuesday.  I changed her snowman to a ghost.

I made this card more fun by popping up the ghost with a wobbly spring.  You can see in this photo how the image will move.

And when you let it go, it snaps back and wobbles.

SCS Featured Stamper

Today's Featured Stamper on Splitcoast is Emily Keaton, who was a DT member of Mark's Finest Papers a couple of years ago.  I also was a fellow Stampin' B with her.  I've loved her designs for a long time.  Today I CASEd her Tattered Roses card, but I changed the roses to poppies.   Here's my card.

I decided I would rather have a standard-sized card; although, because of the Fleur de Lis diecut, I had to make the card 5 inches by 6 1/2 inches.  I love these new poppies from Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Company.  They are in a set to be released on Tuesday.  Be sure to check out our Blog Hop this week to see all four of the new sets.

Changes I made to Emily's card (in addition to the shape of the card) are the poppies (obviously) and the papers.  I also did not have any stitching on my card -- I don't do stitching!!!  After stamping the poppies, I masked them with Eclipse Tape and then stamped on the Crackle background (from MFP Background Fun) while the nestie die was still on the paper. (NOTE TO SELF:  you need more Eclipse Tape!)   I moved the bow and stickpin to the opposite side and the sentiment to the bottom.

Featured Stamper Challenge and More

Today's challenge on Splitcoast Stampers is the Featured Stamper challenge. I CASEd this card from JBgreendawn's gallery because I liked the "woodsy" feel of it. I kept that theme and also the layout -- although I did add another layer (the blue one).

I love the "airy" feel of this forest scene with its little stream and icy trees. I tried to increase the icy feeling by adding some Stickles. This image is from a new set from Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Company, called What a Fox.



These two cards were made for both of Friday's SCS challenges -- the Ways to Use It challenge (to make a Christmas card highlighting black, in honor of Black Friday) and the Queen for the Day challenge, whose Queen was Dawn Lusk, a very talented artist.



Both of these cards were made with Christmas in the Country, another set from Mark's Finest Papers, a Heinrich Company. I just love that church scene. It reminds me of the little country mission church I attended back in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Playing Catch-up -- Again

I admit it -- I have been very remiss in posting to this blog. Sometimes life in general gets in the way of publishing for fun. I won't say that I will be better in the future -- but I'll certainly try.

I did participate in this weekend's Virtual Stamp Night mini challenge on Friday night. I wasn't able to make all my cards as the challenges were posted, but I did follow the 45-minute rule. My first card also qualifies for this week's Friends of Speedy the Cat challenge on the Mark's Finest Papers Blog -- to use your favorite technique. I love to mask. You can obtain lots of depth on a flat surface this way. The VSN challenge was "A Marshmallow World," and we were to put clouds (marshmallows?) on our cards. Using several of the trees from A Walk in the Woods, I created a little bit of the forest, stamping and masking as I went along. The clouds were created by sponging against a scallop circle.



This VSN Challenge was "Let It Snow." We were to use a product like flower soft or flocking to create faux snow on our card. I used an old set from Lizzie Anne Designs called Christmas in the Country. I love that snowman and the little Charlie Brown Christmas tree! I added my Polar White Flower Soft on each of the panels.



One other VSN challenge was to make a card depicting your favorite Christmas song. I won't say this is my FAVORITE Christmas song, but it is the one that brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it -- Mary, Did You Know? Here is the last verse:

I used a Stampin' Up set called Holy Triptych along with some MFP Dark Night Navy and Sparkling Silver cardstock to create my card.



Finally, today's Featured Stamper is Itsapassion (a/k/a Anne). I didn't have to go very far in Anne's gallery to find something to CASE. I had placed her Butterfly Postcard in my Favorites earlier in the week. I changed her butterflies to cardinals and moved the postcard embossing folder a little forward. I had purchased that folder a while ago and had never used it. I sponged the postcard folder and the tulip folder with Tim Holtz Distressed Antique Linen.

Never-Ending Card

Today's Featured Stamper on Splitcoaststampers is Shelly (Freshn'Sassy). In looking through Shelly's gallery, I saw several Never-ending cards, a technique I had not done before. There are several tutorials on-line for this technique -- one of them has a video. What better way to try a new technique than by CASEing someone else. So even though today is Easter, I decided to do a Christmas card.

The card base is made with Mark's Finest Papers' Red Hots (a 100-pound cardstock) and the designer papers are from Stampin'Up's Deck the Halls DSP, matted on MFP Deep Olive. Very little stamping on the front -- just the JOY from MFP's Seasonal Poinsettias.

When you open the first fold, this is what you find. The images are from MFP Greetings of the Season.

For the second fold, I stamped the cardinal and split him in half so he would fit on the two vertical panels.

The back of the card is just designed paper. Even though I had fun making this card, I'm not sure I'll ever try it again. But I had to be able to say that I did it at least once!

Featured Stamper - UKJem

Today's Featured Stamper on Splitcoaststampers is Julie, whose screen name on SCS is UKJem. She has a relatively small, but wonderfully creative, gallery. I chose two of her cards to CASE today.

The first card I found is her Flower Accents card, which was made with very pretty flowers and a lovely sentiment.

My sister was visiting this weekend, and she brought her Heartfelt Creations Daisy Patch stamps and matching Spellbinders dies with her. I used them to make the spray of flowers on my card. The pretty Anna Griffith DP had just enough of a pattern to look good behind the large Labels Ten die. I used it uncut first but decided that it would look better cut into three sections.

I actually had started this second card earlier in the week when the faux tile technique was featured on the home page of SCS. Using the large scene stamp from the soon-to-be released In the Forest set from Mark's Finest Papers, I created the faux tiles. The completed tiles have been sitting on my counter all week while I tried to figure out how I would use them.

Julie's Cats Have Staff card had the right layout to use the tile. My card is 5 1/2 inches square. The base is Mark's Finest Papers' Flecked Dirt (don't you love that name?), and the DP is from the Basic Grey Archaic paper pad. I thought this card would make a nice masculine birthday card -- or even a sympathy card, which are not easy.

Featured Stamper - Ravengirl

I did two CASE cards based on Ravengirl's (a/k/a Toni) gallery for today's SCS Featured Stamper challenge.




My first card is a sneak peek of a new Mark's Finest Papers' set called Tweet Blessings, to be released in August. I kept the layout and colors of Toni's A Krafty Sketch for Hip Hop. Because it was a sketch challenge I changed it up a little by making it an A2 card and moving the sentiment. In addition, I used different stamps. You can't see much of the image on the blue-matted panel, but it is the weave stamp from Background Fun.

Featured Stamper and Catch-Up

I was totally unfamiliar with today's Featured Stamper (sbs81 a/k/a Stephanie) on SCS so it was a treat to look through her gallery. I actually chose a card that she uploaded just this past week, Crabby. I liked the bright reds and the simple layout, both of which I kept for my card. I eliminated one layer, the brads, and the ribbon; but added a sentiment and some pearls. Instead of stitching, I just pierced around the edge of the white panel. Her card was quite whimsical; mine is a bit more traditional.

Yesterday's Inspiration Challenge site, Blue Carrot Shop, has a whole bunch of vintage items to purchase. I recognized several of those things as having been in my house at one time or another. I chose this Florida Tray, using the theme and colors for my card. This also qualifies for Speedy's Friends Challenge to use a punch. The sentiment was punched out with the Word Window Punch.

Featured Stamper -- Pleated Ribbon

Today's Featured Stamper on SCS was Nikki Schmaltz. Her gallery was new to me, but I certainly enjoyed looking through it. I found a card she made back in November of last year that I decided to CASE -- Plum Flourished.

My version has the same layout and feel, but I changed the colors -- and a few other things. I liked the rounded corners, so I kept them.






In place of the stamped flourishes, I used some Reflections rhinestone flourishes I found at Michaels the last time I was there. This week's Crazy4Challenges cards were to include pleats. I've not done that before -- mainly because I really didn't like the look of the staples or stitching which is usually used to keep the pleats in place. I found that, if you use LOTS of Scor-Tape, you can get the pleats to stay -- without the distraction that the staples or stitching usually causes. I had just enough of this pretty ribbon left from Mark's Finest Papers Premium Paper Craft Pack -- I've Got the Blues . . . and Greens for the pleated ribbon and little tab. The rose, which is colored with Faber-Castell pencils and Gamsol, is from Mark's Finest Papers set called Spring Roses and the sentiment is from MFP Ladybugs and Carnation.

SCS Featured Stamper - Pat Smethers

As I was looking through today's Featured Stamper's (Pat Smethers) gallery on SCS and saw her ~Gentle Place~, at first I thought it was a one-layer card. But when I pulled it up to look closer, I saw that it wasn't. It was so pretty that I decided that I would CASE it -- as a one-layer card.





I recently met up with Faith Hofrichter (Markie's Mom) and Jeanne Forsyth (jaforsyth) in Mims, Florida. Jeanne's daughter was involved in an experiment going up in the Shuttle. Jeanne shared with Faith and me some tips on coloring -- both watercoloring and colored pencils. I think I was able to retain the pencil technique more than the watercoloring.


I stamped the swan image with Palette Noir Black and the cattails with Palette Burnt Umber. I used some of Jeanne's tips to give you a sneak peek of a new Mark's Finest Papers set called Our side of the Pond, which will be released later this week. The coloring was done mostly with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol. The embossing around the edge was done with a square Nestabilities die.

Featured Stamper - TheresaCC

Today's Featured Stamper on Splitcoaststampers is Theresa Momber (a/k/a TheresaCC). I actually had time to do two cards -- one last night and one this morning.

The first card is a sneak peek of a soon-to-be released (next week) set from Mark's Finest Papers called Our Side of the Pond.




I CASEd this card of Theresa's -- Life Happens -- keeping much of the feel of her card. I used Spellbinders Labels Nine for my frog image panel, stamping the cattails in Palette Cognac and coloring with Copic markers, sponging around the edge with Palette Raw Sienna. I finally figured out the technique of inking up a Cuttlebug embossing folder so that the ink transfers onto the embossed piece. That's what I did with the background panel. After stamping the sentiment, I punched it out using the SU Key Tag punch, adding a button and some twine.

This card also qualifies for this week's Crazy 4 Challenges challenge of using kraft as the card base. While not called kraft (it's actually Mark's Finest Papers Desert Sand), I don't think anyone is going to argue.

My second card is a CASE of Theresa's Rainbow Butterflies. I didn't change much on this card, keeping the colors, layout and theme. What I did change were the stamps -- this butterfly is a new Purple Daisies Designs stamp I found at a recent StampFest in Clearwater. It coordinates with one of the Paper Shapers punches. I added an additional two layers (one black, one white) to my card.

What drew me to Theresa's card were the bright colors on her butterflies, so I didn't want to change that at all. The flower image is from Just for Fun, and the sentiment is from Verve's Birthday Surprise.

Featured Stamper -- Calendar Project

Today's Featured Stamper on SCS was WeeBeeStampin. After looking through Wendy's gallery, I found this card, which had the perfect layout for my calendar project. Using Flourishes Calendar Sets, I have completed six pages of my calendar. Because they will be back-to-front mounted, I was able to construct the calendar, even though the last six pages have not been stamped. I used a small calendar I picked up at Michaels in their $1 rack. All of the images are cut out using Nestabilities Labels Three. All coloring is done with Copic and Prismacolor markers.

Hopefully, I will be able to complete my calendar tomorrow. This will serve as my office calendar. And I'm thinking that I can replace the calendar sheets next year and use it over again. The Flourishes pre-release challenge is to show some love. I do love Flourishes stamps and alcohol markers. I hope that is enough to qualify for this challenge.

Featured Stamper - Jojot (Joanne)

The Featured Stamper on SCS this week is my fellow Stampin'B's Design Team buddy, so you know I'd be CASEing several of her cards today. I actually made four cards! The first one I chose is shown on the computer screen next to my version.

Although I kept the layout and theme of Joanne's card, I did make a couple of changes:

* Different stamps
* A2 card instead of square



The next card I chose is this one, using the Split Negative technique.

As you probably know, Joanne is well-known for creative beautiful black and white cards. The Split Negative is a fun technique. Check out the tutorial on SCS. My changes were:

* Butterfly instead of dragonfly
* Stripes instead of polka dots
* Punched flower instead of primas
* Circle Nestie instead of Oval

Another favorite color combination of Joanne's is red, black, and white. I used this card as the starting point of my third card.

My layout and color combo are the same. Changes are:

* Different diecut
* Not as many layers
* Different stamps and CB folder
* Only three white brads instead of five

Note, too, that I did not use the corner punch she used on her card. I used the scallop corner punch (dimple) that I now own because of Joanne. Don't look too closely at the CB background embossing. After I was finished, I noticed that the birds are up-side down. Oops!


My final card was a Halloween card. Between my sister and me, we make about 90 Halloween cards for the residents of the assisted living facility where my mom lives. I used this card of Joanne's as the starting point.

I kept Joanne's layout but made the following changes:

* Changed the theme
* Used different stamps
* Added a sentiment

I cut the moon out with a round Nestabilities die and stippled it with a little bit of black ink.

I usually do maybe one or two cards for the Featured Stampers challenge, but I went overboard this week. And, believe me, it was not hard at all. You should check out her gallery. It's amazing!

Featured Stamper

Today's Featured Stamper on SCS is one of my favorite stampers -- Sleepyinseattle, whose real first name is Joanne. I've admired her work for a long, long time.

It was difficult to pick only one card to CASE, but I finally chose this card, which she called Pictures. I kept her colors and sketch, although I did make the center square into a rectangle. The other things I changed were: made a long card, added a ribbon and brad, and used different stamps.

I stamped the images with Versafine Black Onyx and embossed with clear embossing powder, then colored them with Prismacolor and Copic markers. I had to make the center "square" a "rectangle" to enable me to use those koi fish. I added the velvet ribbon and used a glue dot to place the fancy brad on the knot.

Congrats to you, Joanne. You deserve the honor!

Two Challenges -- More Butterflies

I did a couple of SCS challenges in the past few days -- the Inspiration Challenge and the Featured Stamper Challenge. I wound up using a butterfly for both.

Saturday's inspiration website was so full of wonderful stuff. I chose this -- http://www.tracyporter.com/Katsina-R...r-p-17534.html -- because I thought the design on it looked like a butterfly and I loved the colors. I stamped two images of my favorite butterfly stamp, SU's retired Stipple Butterfly, and colored it with Prismacolor and Copic markers. I cut one image out with a Nestabilities die. After going over the second butterfly with a Stardust gel pen to give it a little shimmer, I cut it out totally and popped it up on the first one. It's hard to see on the photo, but I stippled the white circle with River Rock.

Today's Featured Stamper was another unknown to me. As I was wandering through Diane's gallery I found this card -- http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ga...p;ppuser=70774 -- that caught my eye. I loved all the butterflies on her card, so I kept them all, as well as the layout. What I changed was: different stamp for the large butterfly; smaller stamps instead of DP for the border; different shape for the sentiment; and eliminated the flourish.

Featured Stamper

This week's Featured Stamper on SCS is Dawn Lusk (a/k/a DawnL). In looking through her gallery I found a couple of cards I liked and wanted to CASE. The first one I chose was a round card -- the Beat Goes On!

I used the same round shape and musical theme, but made the following changes:

* Different stamps
* Different colors

As you may know, I'm a Twilight fan. I printed off an image of the sheet music from Bella's Lullaby and used it as my background. I stamped the piano and colored it with Prismacolor markers. I then used a Versamark pen and went over the image and embossed it with clear ep. The colors are Twilight colors -- red, black, and white.

The bottom edge is cut with a Spellbinders Pierceabilities die, although I did not pierce.This card also qualifies for the Stampin'B's challenge this week to use both heat and dry embossing. After stamping and cutting out the bird, I popped him up on pop-dots, except for his feet which I adhered to the branch with a glue pen. The images are all from Flourishes Home Tweet Home set. The coloring was done with Copic markers. As the images are all embossed, this card also qualifies for this week's Stampin'B's DT Blog challenge to use both dry and heat embossing.

Embossing Only with Nestabilities

Today I was playing with the Embossing Only with Nestabilities technique from the latest video on Stamp TV.

The first card is for the Featured Stamper's Challenge on SCS. Christy S. has a wonderful gallery, and I chose her Wind to CASE. After stamping the image, I masked a rectangle and made the clouds. Then I used the Nestabilities die to make the embossed frame. I stamped the hot air balloon again on a piece of Basic Grey Lime Rickey DP and glued in onto the original image.

The kids' parade from the Flourishes' Patriotism on Parade is stamped within an embossed Long Rectangle Nestabilities frame. The bunting is also from that same set. I was able to use alcohol markers on the single-layer card because the Gina K Design Pure Luxury White 120 lb. cs is thick enough so that the ink doesn't bleed through to the other side. While the die was still on the card, I sponged the Bashful Blue around the top and sides. I am sending this card, along with a few others, to Flourishes for their Cards for Heros project.

Stamp TV and Today's Featured Stamper

STAMP TV

I just received my new Stamp TV Eclectic Summer Kit. What fun images! As you can see on the header of my blog, I love hot air balloons as well as clowns. The first card I made using the images from the new kit was paper piecing using the hot air balloons.

Using the tutorial on the Stamp TV site as a guide, I stamped the balloon on two different pieces of patterned paper and cut out the sections, gluing them down with a Quicky Glue Pen. After creating the cloud backing with a scalloped circle and a sponge dauber, I stamped the balloons over the background and glued down the paper pieces. The sentiment was computer-generated.

SCS FEATURED STAMPER

Today's Featured Stamper on SCS is Kisa. In looking through her gallery, I chose her Just Bugs card to CASE.

I kept the same layout and feel of Kisa's card, but I made the following changes:

* Different colors
* Different stamp, although still a whimsical bug
* Instead of primas, I used Spellbinders Daisy die cuts.I also added some stickles to the centers of the daisies and the spots on the dragonfly's wings.

Today's Featured Stamper Challenge

It's about time that Rox71 was chosen as the Featured Stamper on SCS. She hosts the Sketch Challenge every Wednesday and is a marvelous stamper. Here are the two cards I CASEd from her gallery.

I chose this card as the first card to CASE today. Because Rox hosts the Sketch Challenge each week, I kept her sketch, as well as the colors. Changes are:

* Different stamp
* Embossed the card base
* Used a scallop nestie to mat the main image
* Eliminated the brads and ribbons, but added three small flowers

The sketches were similar, and I combined the butterflies from the Dots card with the shape of the squares in the Flowers and Hearts one. My images are all from an Inkadinkadoo set of butterflies/birds inchies.
