Scor-Pal Pinspired Project - Exploding Box

I've got a project on my blog today that was inspired by another project from the Scor-Pal Pinterest Board -- an Exploding Box from 2006.

When I started my box, I decided that my theme would be a favorite of mine -- a certain boy wizard and his friends.  My box differs from the original in that there are only two layers of explosion rather than three, and also there is a 3-D object on the inside.

To start my project, I scored a piece of 12" x 12" cardstock at 4" and 8" on both sides . . .

. . . and a piece of 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" cardstock at 3 1/2" and 7" on both sides.

I then cut the four corners out of each piece.

I chose some wizard-related patterned paper and cut eight pieces 3 3/4" square and eight pieces 3 1/4" square.  As you can see, the patterns represent all four houses at the magic school.

Scor-tape is attached to the bottom of the center square of the smaller panel, the pieces are glued together, and the patterned paper applied appropriately.

The next step was to make the lids for the two layers.  The larger lid is made from a piece of matching yellow cardstock 6 5/8" square.  The smaller lid is made from a piece of matching dark gray cardstock 6 1/8" square.  I then scored each piece 1 1/4" in from all four sides.

After cutting tabs on all four corners, I added some Scor-tape.

This was done to both the yellow lid and the dark gray lid.

I then stamped and colored the images (4 teachers and 4 students).  I cut them out with a Spellbinders Labels One die with a slightly larger Labels One die for the matting.

Following the video instructions for the Karen Burniston Castle Pop-up, which you can find on her website here, adding the additional trimwork.

After the castle was completed, I attached it to a 3 3/4" square of patterned paper, using the tabs created with one of the dies in the Castle Pop-Up die set.  I then cut a hexagonal piece of the same patterned paper, inserted the free-standing turret, and glue it inside the castle.

As you can see from the photos, the teachers are glued to the first layer of explosion. . .

. . . and the students are glued to the inside layer.

Scor-Pal More Than One Score Challenge -- Family Celebration

This month's Scor-Pal "More Than One Score" challenge is Birthday or Family Celebrations.  My family loves Harry Potter and Universal Studios.  I made a little purse photo album containing two photos of us at the theme park.

The purse is held closed by small magnets on the flap and underneath the front piece of cardstock.  When you open the purse, the inside contains the photos.

The two (white) end panels are actually envelopes in which I cut ovals.  I then slipped the two photos inside the envelopes.

Crazy4Challenges - Inspired by Harry Potter

I was so happy last month when Frances asked me to be a guest designer for this week's Crazy4Challenges.  The challenge is close to my heart -- and she knew that!

According to the Days of the Year Calendar, the 20th of March was Hufflepuff Pride Day; the 21st was Slytherin Pride Day; the 22nd was Gryffindor Pride Day, and the 23rd is Ravenclaw Pride Day.  These are the four Houses of Hogwarts School of Witchraft and Wizardry from Harry Potter.  This is a challenge for all Harry Potter fans out there.  Create a card inspired by Harry Potter.  This could include using stamps of the characters, using colors on your card from any one of the four houses, or anything else that inspires you.

I pulled out a favorite set of Kindred Stamps (Students of Magic),  the Karen Burniston Spinner Square die, and some Witt & Sass digital sentiments to create my card.  I'm a Hufflepuff, but I chose Gryffindor for the theme of my card.  Those twins were always up to some mischief!

Note the red envelope being delivered by the owl on the inside of the card.  Nobody, but nobody wanted to receive one of those!!!

Kindred Stamps Students of Magic

I was so excited when asked if I would guest design for this new set from Kindred Stamps -- Students of Magic.  It is a re-design of Wizard Friends, which I absolutely loved.  But I have to say, this new set blew my mind.

I went to work as soon as I received it in the mail.  I'm going to wear out those stamps if I'm not careful.  I have six cards to show you. 

The first card is a favorite technique of mine -- Triple Stamping.  I used two of the smaller images, stamped multiple times; but the focus of the card is the sentiment.  It could be a philosophy for all of us to follow!

My next card is relatively clean-and-simple.  I was so happy with all the additional characters included in this new stamp set.  I used one of the additional characters (as well as the bespectacled guy!) on this card.

I am sending this next card to my niece, who is a fan of the little lady with the big glasses.  I hope she enjoys my card.

I borrowed a sentiment from the Kindred Stamps Royal Throne set for my next card.  It worked perfectly with these two red-headed twin brothers.  I loved that the shoe prints were included in this stamp set.  Mmmm!  I may have to make a card with a map on it.

We have a little bonus this month.  Kindred Stamps has a digital image called Magic School, which coordinates with Students of Magic.  I wanted to make a card spotlighting this digital stamp.

My final card uses Spellbinders Labels 7 die set, which I use whenever I want to make a card with a "book" on it.  I thought I had some socks patterned paper; but, when I went to look for it, the paper I was thinking of was actually flip-flops.  So I had to Google "socks" to print out the background paper.
