Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Love is in the Air

My card for this month's Karen Burniston Designer Challenge uses one of the brand-new die sets just released, the Love Is in the Air Charms.  With Valentine's Day right around the corner, this is a perfect set to use.

My card base is one of my favorite sets (and I think the first Karen Burniston die I purchased), the Fancy Label Accordion.

I made full panels for the first and last panel of my accordion, with charms hanging from just the second through the fourth panels.

The second panel charm is a red rose mounted on an oval.  BTW, the rose on the other side is pink.

The third panel contains some cascading hearts.

And the fourth panel is a cute hot air balloon.

Have you checked out the new release blog hop?  There's still time to comment and perhaps win a $25 gift certificate to the Karen Burniston website.  Here's a link to Karen's blog, which is the first one on the hop -- https://karenburniston.com/blog/january-2026-release-blog-hop/

Karen Burniston Blog Hop

 Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our Karen Burniston Products - KB Riley LLC November Release Blog Hop. The Design Team have come together with Karen today for a fun blog hop to celebrate the release of 15 new dies and 5 new stamp sets. Sneak peeks of the new release started last week, and the dies are available to pre-order NOW!
I

This release includes:
  • 1 new Pop-up Die Set
  • 2 new Playful Add-on Die Sets
  • 1 new Ball Add-on Die Set
  • 3 new Ball Access Tab Die Sets
  • 3 new Word Die Sets
  • 3 new Border Die Sets
  • 1 new Greetings Label Die Set
  • 1 new Stand Alone Die Set
  • 5 new Clear Sentiment Stamp Sets
Dies are available to order now on the website.
I think the first Karen Burniston die that I purchased many years ago was the Fancy Label Accordion, and it remains one of my favorites.  I combined it with my favorite new die set from this release -- the Pine Cone set.  I scattered the pine boughs and pinecones throughout this card.  I recently started to add full panels at the front and/or back of the accordion.  Today's card has both.

The front panel really shows off the larger pine bough.  I added both pinecones and the small branch as well as a sentiment from the Christmas Wishes clear stamp set.

The three middle panels have the smaller pine boughs and pinecones as well as one of the sentiments from the new Quiet Forest clear stamp set.

The back full panel features a combination of two sentiments from the previously released Season of Cheer stamp set.

Movie Night with Harry Potter

I haven't played with the new Movie Night Charms very much, so I thought I would make a card using them today.  One of my favorite dies is the Fancy Label Accordion, which was one of the very first Karen Burniston dies I purchased many years ago.

As you may or may not know, I am a big Harry Potter Fan.  I had some of the journaling cards left from a recent Karen Burniston on-line class.  I cut it down to fit the first panel of my card.

I thought the panels of the Fancy Label Accordion were just a bit too large to use the charms as is, so I cut off the charm rings and layered them on the panels.

The filmstrip in the set was perfect for showing off my Harry Potter characters.  These are digital images I downloaded many years ago from Bugaboo Stamps.  I sized them to fit perfectly in the individual sections of the filmstrip.  The sentiment is from Karen's Birthday Magic stamp set.

And here is the whole card.  Movie Night Fun!

I'm giving this card to my daughter-in-law for her birthday later this month.  She is also a big fan of Harry Potter.

Twins

My daughter asked me to make a card for her to give to a co-worker whose wife just presented him with twins -- a boy and a girl.  I thought Karen Burniston's Fancy Label Accordion would be perfect because you can have several canvases on which to create.

The front label welcomes the babies, and the next two are decorated for each baby individually.

I was fortunate enough to have the same new baby patterned paper in both pink and blue, so that's what I used for the frames.  I decorated the centers with some baby-themed ephemera that I have had in my stash for a long time.

I hope her co-worker likes this card.

Karen Burniston New Release - Day 4

Two of the dies in this new Karen Burniston Release are Snow Charms and Charm Rings.  These two sets are highlighed on today's card.

I made a card which was a total experiment using these two sets.  I say "experiment" because I was sort of playing it by ear as I was making the card.  You'll note the sentiment on the front.  It comes from one of the new stamp sets that are also part of this release.

I thought the mittens and the ice skates were just a bit small to hang by themselves, so I mounted them on circles before attaching them to the frames.  The steering bar (if that's what it's called) seemed too thin to try to feed the twine through it, so I knotted the twine at both ends and attached it to the bar with glue dots.  The charms are attached to the frames with the paper rings from the Charm Rings set.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today, and remember to check out the New Release Blog Hop on Monday for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to Karen's website.

Karen Burniston New Release - Day 3

Today's Karen Burniston sneak peek features a quiet, unassuming little set -- Charm Rings.

There are three different-sized charm ring dies in this set.  What is so cool about this set is that you are able to make a charm out of any of the small dies in your inventory.  One of my favorite KB dies is the Fancy Label Accordion.  It may have been the first one of her dies that I bought.  I've made a winter card using it and the Charm Rings.

As you can see from the inside, I made charms out of the Winter Animals set -- the Polar Bear and the Penguin.  In addition, I used the two snowflakes from the new Snow Charms set, connecting them with a strip of acetate.  I attached all the charms to the frames using the middle-sized ring die.

I'll have more about the Snow Charms with tomorrow's sneak peek.  And be sure to check out the blog hop on Monday for lots of chances to win a $25 gift certificate to the Karen Burniston website.

Poinsettia Christmas Accordion

Karen Burniston has the most informative and detailed classes.  She recently had a virtual class using the Fancy Label Accordion.  With these classes you are able to purchase a kit so that you can create the exact card she is demonstrating, or you can use what you have and follow along with her.  That is what I did for this card.

I love blue Christmas cards, so I searched through my stash of Christmas papers to find something in blue that I thought would work.  I found some pretty blue paper with a splash of red and decided it would work for my card.  The sentiment on the front of my card was made using Karen's Small Sentiments Christmas dies.  The pretty little poinsettias inside the frames are part of Honey Bee Stamps' Loads of Holiday Cheer set.

The Fancy Label Accordion has several Add-on sets, and the candles for the inside are from the Birthday Candle Add-ons set.

If you'd like to make one of these cards for yourself, here is the link to Karen's Youtube video.

Karen Burniston New Release Sneak Peek - Day 6

Another new set which coordinates with an existing set is the Fancy Solid Frame, which is an add-on to the Fancy Label Accordion.  I think that particular die is the first Karen Burniston die I ever bought, when Karen was designing for Elizabeth Craft Designs.  There are several other frames for that die set as well.  As you can see from the photo, there is no design on these pieces.

I cut out the last three panels on this accordion and added the Music Charms.

On this second card on which I used the Fancy Solid Frame die, I used one of the dies from the Sailboat Add-ons (the life preserver) and then made my own larger life preserver using the Circles - Crosshatch dies for the center panel.  On the first panel of this card is the new Shadow die for the previously released Thank You die.

Only two more days until Release Day.  Be sure to check out the blog hop for some chances to win a $25 gift certificate to the Karen Burniston website.

A Very Merry Un-Birthday

Did I say that I love the new Karen Burniston Tea & Coffee Pop-Up?  Well, I do.  And after seeing fellow DT member Jennifer Webster's Mad Tea Party card, I was inspired to make one of my own.  I've had a set of Alice in Wonderland-inspired stamps from Kindred Stamps, and it was perfect for my card.  I stacked three of the teacups from the Tea & Coffee Borders set on the table.

I used the same gingham patterned paper from the table on the front for the inside, adding my teacup and two panels from the Fancy Label Accordion for my sentiment.

I loved reading Alice in Wonderland as a kid.  There's also a second book by Lewis Carroll -- Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There.  I have a very old copy of this book, which was my mother's when she was a child.  The cover page is missing, so I have no idea how old it is -- but she was born in 1919 and the pages are quite brown around the edges.

Karen Burniston New Release - Day 3

The new release includes two add-on sets (Hearts Add-ons and Birthday Candles Add-ons).  These sets coordinate with the Fancy Label Accordion die.  My card today uses the Birthday Candles Add-ons.

I pulled out some very old Stampin' Up patterned paper for my project.  I love the brown and pink color combination of this paper.   The front of the card looks exactly like the original Fancy Label Accordion.

It's the inside that has been up-graded!

As you can see, the candles replace the two center panels of the accordion.  To accomplish this, you must first alter the Fancy Label Accordion die-cut, as shown below.  This is very similar to the way the Landscape Rectangle Accordion die-cut is altered when you use the Fence or Cupcake Add-ons.

After connecting the two pieces, you simply glue in the candles panel to each side of the altered panels and continue making your card.  I used two dies from Word Set 9 - Love, adding one on each end panel.

Be sure to check out the Blog Hop on release day, Monday, Dec. 11th.  You will have 9 chances to win a $25 gift certificate to the Karen Burniston store website by commenting on each of the blogs in the hop.

Christmas Accordion

I think one of the first Karen Burniston dies I ever bought was the Fancy Label Accordion, and it has remained one of my favorites.  It has been so hot this summer that I thought a nice chilly Christmas card would be a change of pace.  Of course, I make Christmas cards all year round.

I added the snowflakes frame from the Fancy Winter Frames and used the individual houses from the House Pivot Panel to create my little winter village, adding the Merry Christmas sentiment to the second and third panels.  What I like about the Fancy Label Accordion (in fact, ALL of Karen's accordion sets) is that you can make your card as long as you want.

Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope you'll come back again.

CCEE2105 - Thank a Mailman Day

Manal Habib starts her month as hostess for the CCEE Stampers by celebrating a "day" I had never heard of before -- Thank a Mailman Day.  From what I have witnessed, mailmen and women have been swamped with an over-abundance of letters and packages due to the pandemic.  This is a good time to let them know we appreciate them.

I used one of my go-to Karen Burniston dies (the Fancy Label Accordion) to make my card, along with some Paper Nest Dolls images from their set Esssential Workers.  By the way, the Fancy Label Accordion has several different borders available to you.  I used one of the newer ones -- Fancy Winter Frames.

Check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more thank-you cards for your mailman.

Designer Challenge - Wings

The theme of this month's Karen Burniston Designer Challenge is WINGS.  My favorite thing with wings is a butterfly, and I think my all-time favorite Karen Burniston die is the Fancy Label Accordion.  So I combined these two things for my card this month -- along with one of my favorite colors.

I pulled out some old, but still beautiful butterfly stamps for my card.  I stamped the one on the front twice, cutting one of them out so that it has a nice 3-D look to it.

A closer look at the inside panels . . .

. . . with the computer-generated sentiment on the first panel.
