Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Fun Faces

Karen Burniston recently had a "mini-release" of five clear stamps.  One of them was made to enhance the Paper People die set and had faces for lots of her animal dies as well.  This month's Designer Challenge theme was dedicated to that fun stamp set.

When I saw the theme "Fun Faces," an idea immediately popped into my head; and I ran with it.  As Christmas is right around the corner, I made a Christmas choir made up of 14 members, both male and female.  I placed them in the Wide Woven Basket, which is decorated with a Christmas swag from Fireplace Extras 1 and Ovals Crosshatch.  The choir members have various hair styles from Paper People, and several of them have glasses from Tiny Accessories 1.

What is so fun about the Fun Faces 1 set is that some of the Paper People images have eyelashes and some of them don't.  So, my female singers have the eyelashes, and the males do not.  You can see the difference in this photo.

This was such a fun project.

Christmas in July

Who doesn't like Christmas in July?  And for that reason, I have a Christmas card made with the new Karen Burniston Arch Pop-up die along with several others.

The front of my 5" x 7" card features the Postage Pop-up, released earlier in the year, along with the Poinsettia die.  I thought the Echo Park I Love Christmas patterned paper was the perfect background.

When you open the card, the new Arch Pop-up takes center stage.

Decorating the arch is the smaller poinsettia, along with holly leaves from the Pattern Plate - Holly and pine sprigs from the Poinsettia set.  At each end of the arch is a Christmas tree made with the Christmas Tree Pop Stand set from a few years ago.  To make the tree skirts, I cut out circles from the Circles - Crosshatch set, cut them in half and notched out just a little bit at the center.  I then glued them back in place at the front and back of the upright pieces which hold the trees.  The garlands across the top of the Echo Park paper at the bottom are from Fireplace Extras 1.  The sentiments on the front and inside are from Karen's Season of Cheer clear stamp set, cut out with two different dies from Rectangles and Labels - Crosshatch set.

I had originally cut the arch from white cardstock but decided that some green behind all the foliage would look better, so I cut pieces from some patterned paper and glued it over the white arch.  I didn't realize until I was finished that a little strip of white is showing beneath the green.  I was going to try to trim it off but decided against it.  Here is a close-up of the arch.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge -- Naughty or Nice

This month's Karen Burniston Designer Challenge is titled "Naughty or Nice?"  We were to make a Christmas card incorporating a stocking.  I decided to use the Fireplace Pop-Up and Fireplace Extras 1, which includes stockings.

About 10 years ago I saw a card by Grace Nywening which she called a Center Easel Card.  I thought it was such a clever take on the easel card that I printed out her blog post so I would have the instructions.  This month's challenge was perfect for this type of card.  The Fireplace Pop-Up fit perfectly in the easel section . . .

. . . and the "Merry Christmas" was the perfect "bumper" to hold the card open.

I'm so glad I hung onto those instructions.

I have a bonus Designer Challenge card for you, one which uses one of the new dies -- the Raising Platform Pop-Up.  The stocking part of the challenge is on the front of the card -- along with various other Karen Burniston dies.  By the way, do you see that embossing on the front?  That was made with the Pattern Plate - Holly die, run through my Cuttlebug with the rubber embossing mat.  (Yes, I still use my Cuttlebug for embossing.)

The sneak peek part of this card is on the inside.  The Raising Platform pops up to wish you a Merry Christmas.

As I already had the Pattern Plate - Holly die out on my table, I decided to cut some greenery to decorate the inside.  I used one of the Christmas Borders for some more stockings.

I hope you like my cards.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge -- Fireplaces throughout the year

The last Karen Burniston Designer Challenge for the year is a fun one.  All the DT members are using the Fireplace Pop-Up die, but each one of us is celebrating something different.  I'm celebrating Easter with my 5" x 7" card.  On the front I've got an Easter Bunny from the Spring Animals ready to give away some decorated Easter eggs.  The background scenery is some slimline designer paper from Whimsy Stamps, cut to size.

On the inside is my fireplace, all decorated up for Easter.  I used elements from both Fireplace Add-ons 1 and 2.  The scene in the window is the piece of designer paper I cut from the panel used on the front.  And actually, that "window" is one of the frames from the Slim Frames set.  I just added a cross piece to make it look like a double-hung window.

That cute bunny girl is from Paper Nest Dolls, colored with Copic markers.

I'm anxious to see all the different ways the DT has used this fireplace die for their cards.

Karen Burniston New Release Blog Hop

 Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our Karen Burniston Products - KB Riley LLC September Release Blog Hop. The Design Team have come together with Karen today for a fun blog hop to celebrate the release of 13 new dies. Sneak peeks of the new release started last week, and the dies are available to order NOW!

This release includes:
  • 1 new charm die set
  • 1 new word set
  • 1 new Halloween die set
  • 2 new Halloween Pattern Plates
  • 2 new pop-up die sets
  • 2 new pop-up extra sets to coordinate with one of the new die sets
  • 1 new "Ball" Add-ons set
  • 3 new "Ball" Double-Ups Sets
Dies are available to order now on the website.
For my card, I chose the Fireplace Pop-up along with the two add-on sets.   The front of the card is fairly simple, with just the Merry Christmas with Shadow and one of the dies from the Fireplace Extras 1 (Christmas set), the candles.

The inside is where all the fun happens.  I love this fireplace, reminds me of an old-fashioned Christmas scene.  The fireplace is decorated with lots of pieces from the Fireplace Extras (both 1 and 2).  I especially like the fireplace tools (set 1) and log basket (set 2).   Along the top is the swag from Karen's Street Lantern Pop-Up.

A fun addition to the fireplace is the addition of EZ Lights behind the fire and the candles.

CCEE2234 Intl. Toy Testing Day & Karen Burniston New Release Sneak Peek Day 4

Kelly Santi started her month-long stint as hostess for the CCEE Stampers challenge by telling us that today is International Toy Testing Day.  She asked us to make a card with a toy/toys on them.  Think Christmas cards and Santa's workshop, too.

Many years ago I purchased some Art Impressions Doors & Windows stamps.  The fun part of this series is that there are many add-on sets to create different themes, one of which was a Christmas Toy Shop.  I combined the Art Impressions stamps with a set of stamps/dies from Pink & Main to create this delightful toy store.

AND, when you go into the store (by opening the card) you'll find a couple of dies from the new Karen Burniston release, which will be available next Monday.  The fireplace is actually a pop-up, but I had wanted to make a card with a flat fireplace.  This was my opportunity.

Be sure to check out the CCEE Stampers blog for more toy cards -- and make sure you check out the new dies from Karen Burniston.

Karen Burniston New Release Sneak Peek - Day 2

I've got another sneak peek of new release dies from Karen Burniston.  Today's sets are the Fireplace Pop-Up and Fireplace Extras 1 and 2.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and that's what this card is all about.  The front is a rather simple lead-in.

But the inside is where all the action is!

I love this fireplace with all its little details.  The fireplace, fire, and log are from the main Fireplace Pop-Up set.  The tools and candles are from the Fireplace Extras 1 set; and the grate, clock and picture frames are from the Fireplace Extras 2 set.  I added a few stamped images inside the picture frames as well as the cute little vampire.  The ghost, BOO! and the jack-o-lantern are from Karen's Halloween Elements set.  Finally, the rug was made with the Ovals-Crosshatch set.

I tried a product I've never used before -- glow-in-the-dark embossing powder.  I'm happy to report that it does work, but photographing it is not easy.  Here's the best I could do.

I've got a couple more Halloween cards I'll be sharing with you later in the week.  I hope you'll come back to see them.
