Karen Burniston Designer Challenge -- Bottom Fold

It's time for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge for August, the theme of which is "bottom fold."  I'm not sure I've ever done a bottom fold card, but I dove right in.  My sister was visiting recently from Illinois, and her birthday was shortly after she got home.  Try as I might, I wasn't going to be able to get her birthday card into the mail in time for it to arrive on or before her birthday.  Fortunately, one of Karen Burniston's stamp sets has a "belated" sentiment in it.  I used it on the inside of her card.

I also used the new Display Helpers die on this card.  They help to hold the card open when you display it.

I wasn't really sure how I was going to handle this challenge and was experimenting with ideas.  This card was actually the second one I made for it.  The first one was a little simpler.  It's called a Matchbook Card, as you can see by the way it opens.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today to look at my two bottom-fold cards.

CCEE2228 - National Ice Cream Month

July is National Ice Cream Month, so I gave the CCEE Stampers a really easy challenge this week -- include some ice cream on your card.

I recently saw a clever fun-fold card that Mary Marsh had made for CottageCutz.   She called it a Double Easel Card.  Coincidentally, she had an ice cream sundae on it.  I thought it was such a clever card that I had to CASE it, using my own ice cream sundae die from Karen Burniston.  The ice cream-related sentiments are from an old My Favorite Things stamp set.

Be sure to check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more yummy ice cream treats.

C4C547 - Sweet 16

Tomorrow (8/9) is Crazy4Challenges' DT member's (Tracey Farr) daughter Melissa's 16th birthday.  So she asked the team to make a "Sweet 16" card.

I used the Karen Burniston Ice Cream Sundae die to make my card.

Be sure to check out the Crazy4Challenges blog for some more birthday wishes for Melissa.

More Fast Food!

The sneak peeks of the new Karen Burniston release continue.  While I don't eat fast food a great deal, I have fallen in love with the Fast Food Charms.

I had watched Karen's card for the Designer Challenge this month (which was a double slimline card) and knew I wanted to give it a try.  In addition to the Fast Food Charms, I also used some of the Sweet Treat Charms, one of the Border Blends, the Oval Crosshatch, and part of the new Happy Anniversary sentiment dies on my card.

Here are some close-ups of the "treats."

Stay tuned.  More sneak peeks to follow!

CCEE2011 - Party Favors

Maryann continues as hostess for the CCEE Stampers and asked us to create a bag, box or container that can be used to contain a party favor.  I'm sure like me, you've made lots of party favor containers.  I wanted to try something new, so I looked through the tutorials on Splitcoaststampers for one that I've never made before.   Success!! I found the directions for this cute Ice Cream Sandwich Box,

When you open the lid there are sections for some Hershey Nuggets and a Gift Card.  How cute is that!!!

I used dies from Karen Burniston's Ice Cream Sundae die set and some fun patterned paper for the elements of this cute box.  Note the gift card.  Culver's recently opened about a mile from my house.   Have you ever tried their Lemon Crumble Frozen Custard?  Absolutely delish!!!

Check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more examples of party favors.

CCEE1912 - Natl. Smoke and Mirrors Day

Kelly continues this week as hostess for the CCEE Stampers and tells us that next week is National Smoke and Mirrors Day!  Who knew???  Apparently, this celebration is based on magicians' illusions, where magicians make objects appear or disappear with retracting mirrors and confusing bursts of smoke.  She asked us to wave our magic wands and create a card with a surprise element.  Here's mine.  The front of the card is relatively simple, with it's sweet ice cream cone.

But when you open it up, there's a whole hot fudge sundae!  Yummmmm!!!!

See how the rest of the CCEE Stampers team surprises you on the blog.

Karen Burniston DT Challenge -- Love, Sweet Love!

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and the Karen Burniston Design Team Challenge this month is all about love -- Love, Sweet Love.  Of course, there's a bit of a twist involved.  We had to include some chocolate on our cards.  Who doesn't love chocolate?

I must admit that I have a favorite die from January's release -- the Woven Basket Pop-Up.  I used it, as well as some of the dies from the new Ice Cream Sundae dies for my card.

Ice cream is one of my downfalls, which is why I don't buy it for my freezer very often.  But this ice cream has no calories whatsoever!  I used a couple of sweet sentiments from My Favorite Things to convey my message of Love, Sweet Love.  And there's lots of chocolate on this card as well -- mainly the fudge sauce, but there's also a scoop of chocolate ice cream back there in the sundae.

The "love you" on the front is from Word Set 9 - Love, and the heart at the back is a punch.  I used some small hearts from the Karen Burniston Heart Pivot Panel die and the balloon strings from the Explosion Pop-Up.

One thing I love about this Woven Basket is that it folds flat for mailing.

I hope you like this calorie-free ice cream delight!
