CCEE1550 - Leap Seconds

Did you know that there are occasional "leap seconds" added to the official year. Joanne tells us that on December 31, 2015, the folks who maintain the official time for the planet will add an extra second to the day to help correct minor variations in time.  The CCEE Stampers challenge this week is to incorporate time on our cards.

Check out the CCEE Stampers Blog to see how the rest of the team handles this "timely" challenge. We are taking the rest of the year off, so we will see you on the first Thursday of the New Year!

 Happy Holidays!!!

CCEE1549 - National Roof Over Your Head Day

Joanne is our hostess for the CCEE Stampers Blog this month.  Today she informs us that it is National Roof Over Your Head Day and asks us to make a card with a house/building of some sort on it.  As the holidays are right around the corner, I thought I would make that part of my card today.

Be sure to check the CCEE Stampers Blog to see what the rest of the team has created.

Scor-Pal More Than One Score -- Winter Fun

It's the first of the month again, and this month's More Than One Score Challenge on the Scor-Pal Blog is Winter Fun.  I live in Florida, and we don't get snow very often; but I decided to make a couple of snowmen for my card -- a Center Step Card -- for which I have written a tutorial.  I have seen several versions of the Center Step Card, vertical and horizontal.  My card today is the horizontal version.

Take a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of card stock and place it longways in your paper cutter.  Come in 1" from the side and start to make a cut from the
1 3/4" mark . . .

. . . to the 6 3/4" mark.  Repeat on the other side.

Place your card stock longways across the top of the Scor-Pal and score between the cut lines at
1 3/4"  and . . .

 . . . 2 3/4"

At the 4 1/4" mark, score all the way from top to bottom.

Score between the cut lines at 5 3/4" and . . .

. . . 6 3/4".
Fold your card as shown.  Then you can decorate it any way you'd like.

For my card, I made a background panel, but that is not necessary.

As you can see on this card, there is no center panel.

This one has a center panel of vellum just for attaching the snowflakes.

Check out the Scor-Pal Blog to see what kind of winter fun the rest of the team is having.

We've arrived at the last day of our celebration blog hop.  And it's Susie and Clarke's first anniversary.  I wanted my card to reflect the symbols of the first anniversary, so I did a little research and found the following information:

Traditional Gift:  paper  (how appropriate is that for a card!)
Gemstone:  Peridot  (I had to fudge a little bit on this one.  My enamel dots are pale green, the color of the peridot.)
Color: Gold or Yellow
Flower:  Orange Blossom or Pansy

Here's my card, which incorporates all of those things.

The MFP Stamp Shop sets that I used on this card are Spring Flowers and Swans.

It's Susie and Clarke's wedding day!!!  For the card I made for them, I used the color Susie chose for her bridesmaids -- pink -- as my accent color.

The MFP Stamp Shop set that I used for this card is Lily of the Valley.

Happy Thanksgiving, eveyone!  Frances winds up her month as hostess for the CCEE Stampers blog by reminding us that tomorrow is Black Friday in the USA.  Many will be taking advantage of the sales.  She asked us to create a card with a shopping theme and include the color BLACK on it somewhere.

Nov. 25. Pop Up Card by Lois
Nov. 27 - A Fun Fold by Sandy

Susie has met the love of her life, Clarke, and they are planning to get married.  Today we're celebrating this milestone in her life by throwing her a wedding shower.  The invitation is a Pop-Up Box Card; and, if you've never made one, they are lots of fun.  I have a tutorial to show you how to make one for yourself.

Supplies needed for the basic box are:
12" x 12" cardstock
2 coordinating pieces of patterned paper
Paper trimmer
Scoring board
Scissors
Adhesive and/or Scor-Tape

Cut the 12" x 12" piece of cardstock to 8 1/2" x 12".
Score on the long side at 2 3/4", 5 1/2", 8 1/4" and 11".

Cut off a 2" x 12" strip to be used later.

Turn the 6 1/2" x 12" panel a quarter turn to the left and score at 2 3/4".

Cut down from the top to this score line on each of the four vertical score lines.

At the 11" score line, cut at an angle from the edge up to the score line, removing the excess and creating a tab.

Cut the 2" x 12" strip at 4 3/4" from the end with the 1" score line.

Cut the strip in half the long way, creating two strips 1" x 4 3/4".

Fold on the score lines, creating tabs at each end as shown.

For the inside of the box, cut one piece of patterned paper 2 1/2" x 6 3/4" and three pieces of patterned paper 2 1/2" square -- as shown.
For the outside of the box, cut one piece of white card stock 2 1/2" x 6 3/4", three pieces of patterned paper 2 1/2" square, and three pieces of coordinating patterned paper 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" as shown.

Adhere two strips of Scor-Tape on the outside of the end tab, as shown.

Remove the paper covering from the Scor-Tape.  Fold the card in half at the 5 1/2" score line and tuck in the tab with the adhesive.

Adhere Scor-Tape to the tabs of the two 1" x
4 3/4" strips.

Remove the paper covering and tuck one of the strips into the box, lining up the ends of the tabs with the back of the box.

Remove the paper covering from the other strip and tuck it into the inside of the box, lining up the ends with the first strip.

Your box is now complete and ready to decorate further.

As this is the invitation for the wedding shower, I put the pertinent information on clouds, cut them out and attached them to the inside strips with narrow acetate strips.  Then I decorated the front and put the names of the bride- and groom-to-be on a banner.

As you can see, the card will fold flat for mailing.

I hope you will give this type of fun-fold card a try.  MFP Stamp Shop sets used on my wedding invitation were:  Calendar, Rain Clouds, and Vintage Fashion.
