CCEE2117 - Superhero Day

Frances ends up her April CCEE Stampers challenges by telling us that yesterday (April 28th) was Superhero Day.  For our challenge this week, we were to include a superhero or two on our cards this week.  We could interpret "Superhero" any way we'd like.

I used a new Karen Burniston die to make my card this week.  It's called the Waterfall Card, and it allows you to make this cute waterfall with very little trouble.  Over the past year we've come to consider many different people as "superheroes," as depicted in this cute LDRS Today's Heroes stamp set.

I love how this card opens.

Be sure to check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more superheroes.

Blog Hop Winner and Palm Tree Pop-Up

Before I show you my card for the day, I want to announce the winner from my blog for the recent Karen Burniston DT Blog Hop.  LYN CHRISTIAN is the winner of a $25 gift certificate from Karen Burniston - KB Riley LLC.  Congratulations, Lyn!  Happy shopping!

Now, on to my latest card.  I recently watched a Youtube video on how to ink blend a sunset using Distress Oxide inks.  Kristina Werner showed several different color combinations for creating a sunset, and I chose Squeezed Lemonade, Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet and Blueprint Sketch -- and created what I thought was an acceptable background.  Of course, I then had to make a card!   I hunted through my stamps and found something I thought would work -- two palm trees with a hammock strung between them.  I confess I don't know who made the stamp; it was loose in my drawer of tree stamps.  I colored the trees and hammock "gently" with Copic markers, so as not to detract from that sunset sky.

For the inside, I decided I wanted to have a little fun, so I used the Karen Burniston Palm Tree Pop-Up and found a sentiment I thought complemented the feel of the card.

I am so glad I found that video.  I will definitely be trying that technique again.

CCEE2116 - Tea Day

Frances continues as hostess for the CCEE Stampers this week and told us that April 21st was Tea Day.  She said to create a card that features tea or coffee.   I was never a coffee drinker -- tea has always been my choice.  So this challenge was right up my alley.  I pulled out some old stamps and a fun Karen Burniston die to make my tea card.

This Karen Burniston Photo Collage die is one of my favorites.  Here's a little video showing how it works.

Be sure to check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more tea (or coffee) cards.

Beach Hut

In yesterday's Blog Hop post, Karen Burniston mentioned that the new Tiny House/Mushroom House Add-on dies could be used to make a beach hut.  The idea started some gears turning in my brain, and I ran with them.  I cut both the Tiny House Pop-Up from some patterned paper and constructed it, using the windows, door and roof from the Mushroom House Add-On.  I then cut the Tiny Trees out and did a bit of pruning on the branches -- removing them totally.  Using the smaller fronds die from the Palm Tree Pop-Up, I made two palm trees.  I had never used the new Fold Splitter (from the Tiny Trees Pop-Up), so this was a new adventure.  I'm pretty pleased with the result.

The front of the card is made using the larger palm tree from the Palm Tree Pop-Up and some of the Tropical Scene dies and Word Set 6 - Summer.

Those cute little crabs were stamped on some Shrinky Dink plastic and heated so that they shrunk down to size.

This is actually the second card I made.  The first one was 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" square; but it was too small, and the elements on the inside were bumping into each other.  So I salvaged the palm trees and the hut and made a second card -- this one is a 5" x 7" card.

The inside turned out much better on this larger card.

I've been having lots of fun using Karen's new dies.

Karen Burniston New Release Blog Hop

Welcome to our Karen Burniston Products - KB Riley LLC April Release Blog Hop. The Design Team have come together with Karen today for a fun blog hop to celebrate the release of 12 new dies. Sneak peeks of the new release started last week, and the dies are available to order NOW!.

This release includes:
5 new Interactive Die Sets - Waterfall Card; Tiny House Pop-up; Mushroom Tiny House Add-Ons; Tiny Trees Pop-up; Flower Pivot Panels
3 new sentiment sets - Happy Mother's Day; Happy Father's Day & Welcome
1 new Charm Set - Tool Charms
1 new Stand Alone Die Set - Picnic Elements
1 new Slimline Die Set - Slim Flaps & Frames
I used two of the new dies on my card -- the Waterfall Card die and the Tool Charms.

One of Karen Burniston's earlier dies (the Frame Pull Pop-Up) can be converted to a waterfall card, but this new die set makes it so much easier.

My late husband was very handy with tools, and my son has followed in his Dad's footsteps.  I think I'll give him this card on his birthday.

As you pull on the pull tab, the panels pop up to reveal all those essentials from a tool box.

Here's a short video showing the card in action.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek - Day 7

My final sneak peek at the new Karen Burniston release again uses my favorite new die -- the Waterfall Card.  Karen had asked if I could make a "farm-related" card using it.  I dove right in!!!Pulling out the Farm Edges and several of the animal sets, I created this card

I even made a short video showing this waterfall in action.

This was a really fun card to put together.

Be sure to check the Karen Burniston website tomorrow.  All of the dies in this new release will be available to order.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek - Day 6

My Karen Burniston sneak peek card today uses one of the dies I showed you earlier this week -- the Slim Flaps & Frames.  BUT it's used just a little differently this time.  Karen "challenged" anyone on the team to make a card using this set, but "fusing" the two center flaps together.  Not one to back down from a challenge, I gave it a go.  I had a pad of really pretty fairy paper on my shelf and knew it would be perfect for this card.

On the inside I also used the Tiny House Pop-Up with the Mushroom House add-on pieces.

The little cardinals sitting on the fence (from the Farm Edges set) are part of the new Tiny Trees Pop-Up die.

The little spiral is one of the dies from the Mini Pop-Ups set, and the fairy is from the Backyard Charms set.

I've got one more sneak peek for you tomorrow.  I hope you'll stop back to see it.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek - Day 5

Some time ago, one of the designers on the team asked Karen Burniston to make a set of tools.  Karen is very accommodating.  My first card uses this new set -- Tool Charms -- as well as another new die -- Happy Father's Day, again with a shadow.

My second card for today uses the cute Tiny House Pop-Up -- this time making it a dog house.

Here is a really close-up so you can see how the inked-up element of the roof looks.

I used a label maker to create the sign over the door with Rex's name on it.

I'd love for you to stop back again tomorrow for some more previews of Karen's new dies.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek - Day 4

Karen Burniston's pivot panel dies are very popular.  She has a new one with this release -- the Flower Pivot Panel.  It makes a great Mother's Day card, so I included the new Happy Mother's Day die (with a shadow) on the front.

I took my color choices for the flowers from that gorgeous Lawn Fawn patterned paper.  It's from a paper pad called "Spring Fling."

One of the smaller die sets from this release is the Picnic Elements.  This is such a cute little set -- it even has ants!   I made a mini slimline card using it.

We still have a couple more days of sneak peeks until you can start ordering your dies on April 19th.  I've got a few more cards left to show you before that date.  I hope you stop back to take a look.

CCEE2115 - Look Up at the Sky

Frances has a "holiday" of which I was totally unaware -- Look Up at the Sky Day, which was yesterday.  So her challenge this week for the CCEE Stampers was to include the sky on our cards.  My favorite technique for creating a sky is the Galaxy Technique.  And I just love those cute little Lawn Fawn gnomes.

Check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more sky cards.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek - Day 3

And the fun continues . . . .   Day 3 of the Karen Burniston new release.  Today I have a slimline card -- but a very special one.  It's using one of the new dies called Slim Flaps & Frames.  Oh, the "Welcome" is also new and has a shadow die as well.

Each one of those four flaps is held down using a tiny magnet.  They open individually to reveal the inside of the card.   The Tiny Trees are back today.

You can see another "add-on" set here as well.  Tiny Fruit contains dies for oranges, lemons, cherries, apples, pears, and peaches.  As this is a "Florida" card, I used the oranges, lemons, and colored the lemons green for limes.

I hope you've enjoyed seeing the cards I've shown so far this week.  I've got a few more to show you the rest of the week as well.  I hope you'll come back again.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek - Day 2

I'm using another one of Karen Burniston's new dies today -- actually I'm showing you two of them.  One is an "add-on" set.  The primary set is the Tiny House Pop-Up.  I realize Christmas has long-since passed, but I wanted to make a gingerbread house.

A fun element to this set is the roof die.  It is treated so that you can ink it up prior to cutting the roof piece.  This will show the shingles in more detail.  I used Versamark and white embossing powder so that it looks like icing.  The "gumdrops" along the edge of the roof line were made with a die of 4 small hearts, which is part of the set.

The "add-on" set contains elements to make a Mushroom House.  You get a different roof, door, and windows.  The front of the card is a Riley & Co. Mushroom Lane image, as are the little gnomes on the inside.

You can see that the door is rounded at the top and the windows are round.  And, oh, by the way, that tree is also new.  It's from a set called Tiny Trees Pop-Up.  I'll have another card using that die later this week, showing it in more detail.  I hope you'll check back.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek Week -- Day 1

This is one of my favorite times -- Karen Burniston Sneak Peek Week.  Karen has 12 new dies that will be available for order next week, but this week the DT is giving you some advance inspiration.  I started off my sneak peeks by using what I think is my favorite of the new dies -- the Waterfall Card.  Karen had shown everyone how to make a waterfall card using one of her older dies, the Frame Pull Pop-Up, but this new die makes it so much easier.

I used some cheery red gingham paper as the background for my panels.  The Fast Food Charms fit perfectly on them, after I sponged some red ink to highlight them.

One thing I like about this new set is that the pull panel has a little die-cut with an arrow and the word "pull."  There are actually two different dies, so you can use it horizontally or vertically.

I have already made several cards using this fun die.  I will be posting them on the Karen Burniston Pop-Up Peeps Facebook page during this week.  Be sure to check them out.  And I'll have another fun card on my blog tomorrow using another one of the new dies.
