Wicked Cool Birthday

Many years ago I read Wicked by Gregory Maguire and enjoyed it very much.  Since then I have seen the play.   Hopefully, I'll get to see the movie.  But, in the meantime, I have made a card.  That patterned paper from My Favorite Things seemed to be the perfect choice.

On the inside we find Glinda and Elphaba resting on the Karen Burniston Little Labels Pop-up.   The sentiment stamps come from two different KB stamp sets, Photo Memories and Birthday/Belated.

I like that several of Karen's label dies have different size labels, so you can mix and match.  I used labels from two different sets -- Little Labels Pop-up and Paper Frames.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today.  I hope you come back again.

50th Birthday

I had a request from one of my friends to make a 50th birthday card for her daughter.  There was a little twist to this request.  She wanted me to incorporate sharks and mermaids into the card.  After much thought, I put this card together, using the Karen Burniston Little Labels Pop-Up on the inside.

As it was a 50th birthday, I thought I should use some gold in the design, so I made the frame (Pinkfresh Studios) and the "50th" (Karen Burniston) from gold cardstock.  I had found that cool wave paper at Hobby Lobby several months ago and figured the shark would look cute behind one of the waves.

On the inside the Little Label Pop-Up holds both a shark and a couple of mermaids -- thus fulfilling the request.  I added a couple of Border Blend strips to the top and bottom of the card, as well as the larger label for a place to sign the card.  Those larger labels were created using dies from the Paper Frames set, which has labels of the same shape as those in the Little Labels Pop-Up.

I hope my friend likes this.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Flowers

This month's Karen Burniston Designer Challenge is all about spring -- the theme being "Flowers."  The purple and yellow color combination is always a good one for spring.  The flowers on the front are from the Flower Pivot Panel set . . .

. . . and the ones on the inside are from the Flower Pot Pop-Up set.  I used that "framed paper frames" technique that Karen has demonstrated for the inside and added a couple of Border Blends to the frame.

The designer challenge is always so much fun.  I love to see the different ways each member of the design team handles the same theme.

Another Sneak Peek

I must say that I've been having a great time creating St. Patrick's Day cards with some of the new dies from Karen Burniston, and I've got another one today.  And I've got another one today, but this mini slimline one uses the Heart Collage Pop-up as well as the St. Patrick's Day dies.  I love how you can convert the Gnome & Santa into a leprechaun using the hat from the Good Luck Charms and changing the colors of his hair and clothes.

In addition to the Heart Collage Pop-Up (using some of the Good Luck Charms instead of the hearts) I have some labels from both the Paper Frames Pop-Up and the Crosshatch - Labels, as well as one of the Border Blends on the inside.

This is such a fun release.  The dies will be available to order next week.  And be sure to check out our blog hop on Monday.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge -- MOD HOLIDAY

It's time again for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.  This month we were to make a Christmas card using a non-traditional color.

As one of my favorite colors is purple, that's the direction in which I went.  The front of the card is relatively simple, with just a snowy hill (using the Long Nature's Edges 2) and snowflakes (also Long Nature's Edges 2).

The inside has a bit more to say.

I used the new Little Labels Pop-Up and added a few holiday charms to the labels.  Please note that another Karen Burniston die set, the Paper Frames, has dies in the same shape as the labels.  I actually used some of them on the layering.  One of the dies in the new Border Blends - Trims set looks so nice with two pieces woven together, as you can see along the base of the pop-up.  Another new die is the Labels - Crosshatch, which I used as a place to sign the card, dressing it up a little with some more snowflakes.

Thanks for stopping by and looking at my Designer Challenge card for December.

Karen Burniston New Release Sneak Peeks - Day 1

It's finally time to show off some projects made with the new Karen Burniston release, which will be available next week.

My first sneak peek is at a fun pop-up -- Little Labels Pop-Up.  Sci-fi fan that I am, I used the Rocket Pop-Up and Space Charms in conjunction with the Little Labels Pop-Up for this mini slimline card.

The inside is where the pop-up shows off.  By the way, the labels are exactly the same shape as the frames in the Paper Frames Pop-Up, so you have lots of choices for sizes.  My card includes one of the Paper Frames' labels as well.

Be sure to check back every day this week for more sneak peeks.  This is a small release (8 dies) but a fun one.  And next Monday we will be having a blog hop, where you could win a $25 gift certificate to the Karen Burniston shop!

CCEE2026 - National Bald Eagle Day

Vicky ends her month as hostess for the CCEE Stampers by telling us that today we celebrate the Bald Eagle.  She asked us to make a card with a bird on it . . . extra points if it's a Bald Eagle.

I'm always in for the extra points!  I have a couple of bald eagle stamps  The one on the front of my card is from an old MFP Stamp Shop set.  The background for my card is one of Karen Burniston's new Pattern Plates -- this one is Tiles.  Before adhering the Tiles cover plate on the front of my card, I sponged on some red and blue Distress Oxide ink and then glued down the die cut.

The inside of my card has another bald eagle as well as some fireworks and an American Flag mounted on the Karen Burniston Paper Frames die cut.  I added the two banners at the top.  Those little "pennants" are part of the die set as well.

Check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more birds (eagles or otherwise).

CCEE2015 - Unicorn Day

According to our CCEE Stampers hostess Frances, today is Unicorn Day; and she asked us to feature unicorns on our cards this week.

This was a fun one.  I had just bought some cool unicorn paper at Hobby Lobby, and it was perfect for this challenge.  On the front of my card is a Karen Burniston animal die cut . . .

. . . and the inside is a sneak peek at one of the new Karen Burniston dies -- the Paper Frames.  The stamps are from Mama Elephant.

The new dies were supposed to be released back in March; but because of the virus pandemic, shipment was delayed.  They are finally available for pre-order and will begin shipping next week.

Check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more unicorn fun!

Karen Burniston New Release Blog Hop

After a much-too-long delay, the new Karen Burniston dies are ready for pre-order, and the Design Team has been chomping at the bit to be able to show them to you.  The card I have to show you today features two of the new dies -- the Paper Frames Pop-Up and the Cruise Charms.

I found a nautical scrapbook kit at Hobby Lobby on clearance a few weeks ago and decided the papers would be perfect on a card using these dies.  I used one of the smaller prints for my background and cut out the sentiment with some circle dies, adding the gold anchor from the Cruise Charms in the center.  The trim at the top and bottom are from one of the Border Blends across the top and bottom.

The inside is where the interest comes in.  Aren't those great frames for the other Cruise Charms?  The little banners strung across the top are also included in the Paper Frames Pop-Up die set.  The panel on the right is where a personal message could be written.

I had made a card for my sister using both of these die sets when I first received them.  She had been planning a cruise with several of her friends; but, unfortunately because of the current health situation, they had to cancel.  She did enjoy the card though.  The ocean paper was also part of that nautical scrapbook kit.

There are eight new dies in this release -- two pop-up dies, three background dies, and three charms/sentiment dies.

Something you might find helpful when deciding which dies your NEED, here's a link to Karen Burniston's newest catalog.
