Paper Doll Pop-Up Stand

Mark's Finest Papers a Heinrich Co. has a new line of Paper Dolls!  We are featuring the new Paper Doll Sets on the MFP Blog (http://marksfinestpapers.blogspot.com) and on MFPSpeedyTV.ning.com through January 18th.  Some of the projects will feature tutorials, too! You will be surprised and delighted by some of the designers’ projects. From traditional paper dolls to scrapbook pages to creative tags and cards, the ideas are endless! Be sure to visit the MFP Blog and/or Speedy TV each day to see a new and beautiful paper doll project.

Some time ago I learned how to make a free-standing pop-up card.  As I was trying to come up with ideas on how to use these new paper doll stamps, I wondered if I could adapt the directions for that card -- and came up with this project.

I'd like to share my directions with you today.  Start with a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of card stock for your base.  Score at 1", 2 3/4", 3 3/4", 5 1/2", 7 1/4", 8 1/4", and 10".

On the 5 1/2" scoreline, mark in 5/8" from either side.

Cut a slit between the two marks.  You could use a craft knife or paper cutter for this purpose.  I used my Fiskars paper cutter.

Stamp and color your doll image on a piece of white cardstock 3 1/2" x 7".

Cut out doll, leaving a 1" section at the bottom.

Fold your base piece on the score lines.  Apply scor-tape on the end sections.

If desired, cut patterned paper to decorate the base -- one piece 3 1/4" x 4" and two pieces 3/4" x 4".

On the 3 1/4" x 4" piece mark the back at 2" and cut a slot on this line to allow doll to protrude.  Apply tape to edges and on either side of the slot.

Decorate stand.

Insert doll from underneath.

Close bottom of base, catching the 1" section of the cut-out doll between the lines of scor-tape.

Turn over and adjust doll in the slot.

You can dress her with her cut-out apparel.

And she folds flat for storage.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will try it.  Be sure to come back tomorrow for the official start of the January Blog Hop.  I'm excited about the projects I have created using these paper dolls, as are all the rest of the designers.
