I used a new-to-me technique on my card today. Tammylee Newberry did a tutorial she called "Embossing on Pop Cans" for the Tutorial Team on Speedy TV. I combined this technique with the challenge that Brenda O'Rear gave the CCEE team this week to get some winter or Christmas cards in the mix and use snowmen. I cut my soda can open and washed it off. I then stamped the snowflakes in Whisper White and embossed with detail white embossing powder. I thought it would be easier to cut the cardstock rather than the aluminum, so I cut out my oval from the DP and then cut the border using a scallop and a straight die at the same time.
To find the tutorial for this technique, go to Speedy TV. And, if you'd like to play along with the CCEE team, link your card up on the blog, using Mr. Linky at the bottom of the post.
Stamps: Mark's Finest Papers - Holly Jolly Greetings
Paper: MFP Snow Storm Smooth, Bang Up Blue: October Afternoon Good Cheer DP
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Rubarb Stalk, SU Whisper White
Accessories: Copic markers, Petite Ovals nesties, Aluminum soda can, Detail White embossing powder
Well, isn't that an unusual technique; hope you didn't get any "tin" cuts! Turned out quite cool!
ReplyDeleteWhat a TQ this is! Well done, gf. that snowperson is wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteA very cute card and I love the colors you chose for your snowman. I love embossing coke cans, it is easy and a good way to recycle. I discovered that technique a couple of months ago and will be using it a lot. I also have used the soda cans with punches, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful technique and I think you were smart to cut the die rather than the aluminum. I have never worked with soda cans so I'm glad to see what you did. The snowflakes look so pretty and, of course, I love your snowman image.
ReplyDeleteInteresting technique and cute card, Lois!

ReplyDeletesuper cute..love the snow
ReplyDeleteGreat framing to show off your snowflakes, and a sweet snowman too. I can bet that you have to watch out not to touch the can till it's cooled down from the heat gun; I can just imagine myself getting a burnt finger.
ReplyDeleteCool background with the embossed snowflakes Lois!! Is so fun with Mr Snowman :)
